e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > CNC Grips on Swift - HELP please

hello, I am at work - and just received the CNC grips (purchased online and only took 3 days!).

Anyhow, upon inspection, I noticed that it has the radial bearings already installed - but no thrust bearings (not sure if there are any spacers between the inner/outer bearing. I had couple of quesitons:

1. can i just swap my thrust bearings from my plastic grips?
2. will i need any washers between the radial/thrust bearings?
3. i also received the spacer, which goes between the dampner and grips ... will i need to grind it down (i believe Ron/Laughingstill mentioned it before)?
4. will i need to shave down the rubber dampner (i do have the latest version of feahering shaft)

i would love to see what this bird can do with higher headspeed. since i was using plastic grips, i kept it below 2100rpm with 550s.

your advice/experience will be much appreciated ... khan

PS currently i am using the metal headblock. i do get vibration at certain HS during spool up/down - i just play with the pitch a bit to get rid of it.

1. can i just swap my thrust bearings from my plastic grips? NO

2. will i need any washers between the radial/thrust bearings? YES

3. i also received the spacer, which goes between the dampener and grips ... will i need to grind it down? Only if the head is not smooth.

4. will i need to shave down the rubber dampener (i do have the latest version of feathering shaft) If its black you got the latest. No shaving of the dampeners or shaft is needed just the spacers between the dampeners and bearing. ( I think that's why they make them aluminum now instead of brass. More easy to shave/sand/grind down.

just curious ... will the original plastic grips take the stress (at say 2300 rpm, with 550mm blades)

has anyone tried it out?

I have not but I would not try that headspeed without CNC grips.....Ron

yes i have tryed that and yes they will take it but i won't recomend anybody else try it unless they are willing to see ther heli explode in mid air. I have had no problems but i don't fly it around other people or close to myself.but man does it rock on a 8s neu power system.

ron,

i got the new feathering shaft, new aluminum colored spacer. do i still need to shave the dampner, and grind down spacer?

and i am very much surprised that the thrust bearings are not interchangeable between plastic grips and cnc grips... bummer.

this is the thrust bearings, i bought:

CNBB614T2 - Thrust Bearing 6x14x5 (2)

which one should i have bought, so then it would fit on the cnc grips?

If you got the new thrust bearings and the new spacer, it should all fit fine. When you get it together and it is sticky, then you know what to do.....Ron

this is what i found on the century heli website:

6x13.8x5 Thrust Bearings (CNBB6138T/CNBB6138T2)

the dimensions are off from what i ordered:
(CNBB614T2 - Thrust Bearing 6x14x5) by .2mm, i wish i have known that.

now i am thinking, maybe the washer between the thrust and radial bearings might be different too - or, are they the same sized washer?

They should be different also.

i tried out the cnc grips, thanks to Shooter75's help.

actually, i was surprised how well they parts fit together. after tightening the grips (from each end) quite a bit, i thought it would bind, it didn't

at the field, as i spooled up, i was expecting the infamous jitters... well, it did vibrate a bit, but way less than when i had the stock grips. keep in mind, that i do not have the reinforced frame, neither do i have the third bearing block upgrade.

i am using 12T, on 1910/1.5y with 10s a123. it flew fine, loads of power ... HS was around 2400 - flight lasted 5 minutes, the motor got up to around 140 degrees, which i am not that happy with ... but that is another topic

cheers, and thanks to everyone ... specially shooter

khan
