Who are you emailing? In the U.S. the representative is MRC and their support is usually excellent. Try to email: reflexinfo@modelrectifier.com

Sorry to hear about your frustration. I'm not a great fan of Reflex the company but even though I have switched over to Phoenix I still think the Reflex simulator is pretty good.

To answer to your specific issues

(i) It is possible for you to upgrade to 5.03 (for free). To do this you need the XTR CD which will take you to 5.00 and then you can download the updates to 5.03. You can't go beyond this because Reflex introduced a hardware change at 5.04 but there have been no software improvements since so you aren't missing much by being stuck at 5.03. You should be able to request the XTR disk free from Reflex or your in country distrbuter (MRC in your case). Failing that hundreds of Americans on this site have it and I'm sure one would be kind enough to send you a copy (no copyright problems - free to distribute).

(ii) Vista is a bit of a hassle as I understand (not tried myself). There are possibly two approaches. The first is to install on an XP machine and copy the resultant file structure across to Vista (again, if you don't have access to an XP machine someone here must be able to help). The Reflex site also claims that 5.04 installs on Vista - not sure how you would get hold of this - good question for MRC.

If you order a 5.03 update in CD format (not download) only shipping cost is charged, and it will be the complete product with updates alredy included (up to 5.03). This CD should install in vista with no problems. It's only previous versions of the installer CD wich have problems to install in Vista.
This is from Reflex on-line shop directly, I don't know the MRC policy.

If what you are saying about the 5.03 CD is correct, and I have no reason to doubt you, then the quality of the Reflex website stinks.

From there support link on Vista

http://www.reflex-sim.de/reflex-sim...?faqPath=15_135

No mention of Vista being supported on the 5.03 disk. They advise either copying the structure from an XP install or upgrading to 5.04.

And from there 5.03 order page

http://www.reflex-sim.de/reflex-sim...&products_id=77

No mention that this will install in Vista. In fact the only reference to Vista sends you off to the iVol\Slimstick order page so you will get 5.04.

Nigel

Thanks for the replies but I still dont see what to do. Yes I did speak to Bob at MRC who is a great guy and he said he would sell me the newer version but really I dont need it and just want to make the one I have work. I just need that XTR cd but the people at reflex in Germany will not answer emails at all. So like I said this is BS. Anyone have a spare cd?

I sold my reflex a while ago when I changed over to Phoenix. I did a few copies for people at the time so may have one lying about.

If so, I would be prepared to send it to you though it would be easier if someone in the US would send instead.

I let you know once I have got home from work and had a look.

Cheers,

Nigel

Failing that you could pull it off a torrent - if you don't know what that is then it's best to stay innocent as that path leads to all sorts of dodgy activities.

Better still would be for someone with an XP install to dump the folder structure to CD\DVD for you - that way you can put it straight on Vista.

Right, I don't have the XTR disk.

What I do have though is the File Structure dump of my previous install which is patched to 5.03 and includes all downloaded extra aircraft and scenery.

Zipped up it comes to 544MB so will fit easily on a CD.

I'm more than happy to send this out to you if you want. Shall be say wait a day or so to see if anyone more local can sort you out more quick, if not PM me your address and I'll post it to you.

Cheers,

Nigel

No not that much. The UK Postal Service is surprisingly cheap (about the only thing that is over here!) so I wouldn't mind doing it.

Sounds like you might have a solution closer to home though - let me know and I'll post out if you need.

Yeah, Reflex are a funny old bunch. They used to come on here regularly and were really helpful. Then when people started having problems when XTR first came out they started getting rude, defensive and unhelpful. Then they announced that all communications would be done through their forum only. Then when they got a lot of posts on their own 'problems and issues thread' they closed done that forum. Then they eventually closed all their forums and disappeared into a black hole.

I think their product was great, iVol was brave but misguided but their service and customer skills are awful.

Nigel

nheater:

As I wasn't sure about the things I said (just trying to help) I've just done a quick search for "Reflex Products" member last post.

"Nope. As I said earlier, "The current installer on the 5.03 CD seems to be working with Vista" - that is the latest CD in the full versions since November and also available as update. I just got 5 user comments in my support today confirming this as the german vista commercial seems to be out sincelast monday.
May have an earlier CD which still carries the un-vista-installer."

Didn't cost much.
