i just put on a gy401. it was working great for the first two batteries. after that, i started getting a slow flashing light constantly instead of staying lit. i read in the manuel and it said that "Displayed when there are no rudder operation signal being
input from the transmitter. At this time, the rudder servo
does not operate."
it flies, but doesn't hold the heading like it should. what changed? what can i do to fix it?

Make sure gyro is plugged in correctly using rudder channel and gear channel go to new model and see if gyro lite stays on move gear switch and turn on you might need to reverse gear to get gyro to boot up with switch in up position

I dont know how to fly just how to not crash !!!!!

its plugged in correctly, but i have it plugged into the rudder and aux2 to use my rudder dual rate switch. it's easier for me to get to than the gear switch.
the trim and sub-trim are both zeroed out.
what is revo mixing?

Based on the first part of your statement above, if you were seeing the "slow flash" indication, your rudder servo WILL NOT WORK. Period.

Based on the second part of your statement above, the servo is moving when you move the control stick, but the gyro simply isn't holding and acting as a Heading Hold gyro should.

I would venture that you are seeing the "intermittent flash" indication, one that says you were a bad boy and did NOT initialize the gyro with the transmitter set to select HEADING HOLD mode. The fact that your servo IS working AND the gyro is NOT holding well tells me you are not initialized in HH mode at power-up.

-----

I just checked the operation of a 401 gyro controlled by my 8103 TX, with the gain lead plugged into the Aux2 channel, and with the RUDDER DUAL-RATE switch selected to operate the gain in the GYRO SENSE Menu.

For either position of the Rudder Dual-Rate switch (the "0" or "1" that shows up in the menu), the value entered MUST BE GREATER THAN 50 for THAT switch position to put the gyro into HEADING HOLD mode. Numbers LESS than 50 put you into Normal Mode.

This allows the each position of the switch to be set up to select Normal/Rate mode (number < 50) or HH mode (number > 50).

Therefore, for your gyro to initialize PROPERLY and to be put into Heading Hold mode, the number associated with the position of the switch that you want to be HH mode select must be GREATER than 50.

AND the switch MUST be in that position when you apply power to the gyro.

-----

With respect to the numbers, it would appear that 0 translates to 100% gain in Normal/Rate mode, 25 is 50% gain in Normal/Rate mode, 50 is 0% gain (gyro essentially disabled). 75 will be 50% gain in HH mode, 100 will be 100% gain in HH mode.

Make the number for whatever switch position you are calling "HH" mode something on the order of 75, and put the switch in THAT position when you turn on the RX/Gyro. This will at least guarantee that you initialize the gyro in HH mode (an absolute MUST for the gyro to operate and hold correctly) and will get you at least 50% gain.

The light will go on solid after power up, and the gyro will hold.

And then make sure that ALL rudder trims in ALL flight modes are identical before flying. It's best NOT to use rudder trim at all, and to make the proper mechanical adjustments to the tail linkage with the gyro in Normal/Rate mode so that the heli does not yaw left or right at hover. Once you've done this final tuning step, you can go back to HH mode and have a ball flying.
