| A timer on your TX is the best way to go. Voltage alarms are not very popular among experienced pilots.

Timers alone are not a good idea. You can have a radically different discharge state if you fly a nice docile flight or a hard 3d flight using the same flight time.
A lipo alarm is a fool proof way to know EXACTLY when to land.
They aren't popular with the pro's, as you claim, likely because the pro's are flying pretty much the same 3-D type flights every time. A person who is learning and progressing is likely to try different more current intensive maneuver's during their flights. By using a timer with a set time, you could have one flight where you are at or below the 80% rule and then on another flight where you tried a bunch of current intensive maneuvers, you could exceed the 80% rule.
I use both a Tx timer and a homemade lipo alarm set to alarm visually with a high output, wide viewing angle LED when the cells reach 3.33V per cell. This setting is under load too so when at rest, the cell voltages are closer to 3.5 and above. |
