one of the items made are ac delco alternators. Hard for another company to compete with the low wage labor used to make those. Unfair labor practices. Good for the inmates as they get some money which is cycled through the commisarry in the prison which helps pay for some things in prison. Some learn some skills that they can use after they pay their debt to society. Bad for some who only learn how to assemble chairs.
A farm that helps feed the prison population and save tax payer's dollars is a good thing. Selling them as slaves to factories will only cause free factory workers to get paid poorly and unscrupolous people in the legal system to find a way to convict people unfairly whether innocent or not and sell them into slavery for kickbacks from companies looking for the cheap labor.
In a perfect world, people in power wouldn't be corrupt. Nor would there be any crimes.
In the federal courts, when convicted, the felon can by sentenced to pay for his incarceration or be fined. I wonder what becomes of the fine?
I'm sure there is a better way to incarcerate those that need it. A lot of people that have been in prison will return. Why? If we can get them to stop committing crimes, that in itself will save a lot of tax payer's dollars that can be wasted on this stupid war we are in.
Man, I miss the eighties. |
