i have a twinstar fuselage with century mechs, it has a OS .32 with the regular century muffler the whole thing fits in the fuselage but the muffler is hitting the side of the fuse a little, so my question is: is it ever ok to hit the side of the muffler with a hammer just a little to get it to clear the fuselage side?

Talk about "forced fit". Unless it's pretty soft aluminum it's going to take you a few whacks and you may bend more then just the area you're wanting to get to clear.

On small fuses I've often used heat tape, I believe it's made by 3M. It's about 1/8 thick and works pretty well.

you can buy that tape in a hardware store, or if it is the matting, you can get it from Vario.

Ord.No. 9/25 - heat reflective Matting

and that is the type of tape you can use, i used it in my EC135 to cover the tail servo cable that run the length of the fuse near the turbine exhaust.

it works very well.

Tape Is Good.....

Another way I have cured a close fit is to mill down the flat that attaches to the exhaust.... a belt sander and a file will take just a bit off and give you a little more clearance... MUCH better then hitting it with a hammer and you can even change the angle that it exits if need be... just take a little at a time and don't rush it... if you cut it three times and it is still too long you are doing it right
And also use the heat tape just to make certain that the heat doesn't bother the paint.....and you should be good to go!!!!

Good Luck, Stan....

If there is a cure for this, please don't tell me about it!!!
