JR Heli Vibe - Airskipper - Sylphide - Venture > Vibe 50 landing gear brittle?

I just had a couple of bouncy auto landings with my Vibe 50, and I broke the forward right side of the gear strut, just outside of the mounting area. I was very surprised to see it break, as it really wasn't a hard bounce. It then fell over as the blades were winding down, no other damage thank goodness. I just ordered a replacement set from Horizon. Hope it was just a fluke, and we don't have to revisit weak landing gear threads like the N9 had!

I had some bouncy landings without a hick. It probably depends on how hard it really is and specially at what angle. The way the 600N skids are, if you land strait down hard, the legs will break on impact by the screws (don't ask me how I know). With the vibe, since the landing gear is more spread out and curved, my guess is that it will spread open on a strait down hard landing but could easily break of if the angle of impact is over 30 degrees +/- as the lower strut will have no where to spread to.

Sounds like a bad one. Those are the same gear used on the AS50, never had one break in an auto in more than 2 years.

First landing gear problem i've heard about, stuff happens.

I've noticed that Horizon has been getting a lot of parts in lately. I'm stocking up by buying a few of the usual items each week.Makes it easier when the big one happens. LOL!!!!

Buy an extra kit. Its cheaper and you have ALL parts right at hand. After you rebuild you can order the parts you removed from the kit to put it together again and you'll always have a full kit in case you should decide sell it one day.

Hey Tony,

Good idea. I'm planning on getting another one soon anyway. I've already got an extra YS50 on the way.

Probably just a bad mix of plastic or an internally flawed injection molding. I have gotten a few parts on other models that just broke for no reason.

I broke mine today also...

... after an inverted auto with half flip on a windless day with a pair of radix SBs (and the previous 3 were quite OK)

I changed the front on mine twice due to hard auto, I think they are a bit on the brittle side, but again it was a hard auto

I broke mine in a fairly hard crash (to be expected) so while waiting for parts I decided to see if Align gear would fit and it does but you have to drill new holes. Its kind of ghetto but it is an option especially if thats all thats keeping you from flying.

its kinda repulsive to have an align gear on a vibe but extreme situations require extreme measures

humm... now that I think of it, I have a spare 600E landing gear somewhere around here... I would only need to make myself two frame savers and it would be good to go...

Try some of the MA Tuff Struts. They are pretty strong but a little pricey.
