| Tommy,
Eric is right you need some sort of balancer, I use a Du-bro one, but any good balancer will work.
Here is how I balance a clutch/Fan Assy:
1. Assemble the Clutch/Fan stack and install all fasteners(Not tight, but just intall them.
2. Install the balance adapter and install the stack on the balancer
3. Lightly spin the stack and let it come to a stop. Mark the high spot with a sharpie, and Re spin.
4. If the mark is in a different spot, Spin one more time just to make sure. If it stops in a different spot again, Index the assy with a marker, and re-assemble using loctite, and install in the model
5.If the mark is in the same spot, Try removing the clutch, and or fan hub and rotate the 180deg. or in some cases 90deg. and re-spin again.
6. If that still does not work, then its time to get out the drill! Basically, you take the heavy side of the fan, the side opposite of the mark, and start dimpling the fan with about a 1/4'' drill bit. It resembles a golf ball. Ideally you do not want to drill through the fan, but remove as much material as possible. drill 3 or 4 dimples and re spin. Repeat process as reqd.
This process is assuming that you have not installed a Governor magnet. If you wish to install a magnet, now would be the time to do so. I wont go into details on how to install the magnet, but install the magnet on the light side of the fan on the initial step, and proceed with balancing the fan/ Clutch assy.
This is about the only component that I will check and balance when I am building a nitro model. Most Manufacturers have good tolerances in todays kits, but it never huts to check it out!
Hope that helps everyone!
