HIROBO X-spec - Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > X-spec or Vibe 50

So its time to start thinking about a bigger heli. The Blade 400 is a great heli and I wouldnt trade it for a Nitro bird, but I would like to add a bigger ship to my inventory. If its windy the blade can be a handful. I see that Ricks heli's is closing out X-spec's with both heads for $650 bucks. Sounds like a good deal, but I also seen that JR has a new Vibe 50 out.Looks to be a good machine,so that has me wondering whats a better ship? a Xspec or the new Vibe? Thoughts,Ideas??? I look at the Evo but since Hirobo has a new 3D heli and there is a rumour that there is also a 50 in the works, I will pass on them....

Hard to say . . . I have both, and won't part with either. The Vibe probably has an edge on hard 3D, but since you are a fairly new flyer, the "on rails" stability of the X-Spec, as well as it's decent 3D performance would be good as well. Since you are coming from a small electric, you need to also ask yourself about costs of operation and repairs - a 90 *will* cost more to maintain . . .

Or, if you have the dough, buy the X-Spec now, and then the Vibe . . . you will be able to get a Vibe for quite a while, but the deal on the X-Spec's may not be around for long . . . or just buy 'em both right now . . . it's nice having both a 90 and a 50!

Let me just say I started with a Shuttle in 2002 and a few years back I bought a Freya from Ricks. It was one of the $425 deals and I sold it before I even flew it for moronic reasons, dont ask, I kick myself every time I look at the box.
I tried to look at crash cost between them and just a rough look, it would seem the Xspec isnt much more expensive?? Doesnt make sense...

Ok Heliproz has the Evo 90 for $599. same as the new Vibe. I would like to think I need a fast 3d machine but I dont. I like big fast loops and rolls. Any reason not to order the Evo even thou Hirobo has a new 3D machine coming out?

Given the choice, I'd not hesitate to pop the extra $50 for the X-Spec over the Freya Evo. It has the Evo head, so will fly the same in that regard, but the carbon frame is stiffer and lighter, and if you want to use it, you get the original metal X-Spec/Freya head as well (that's what I fly . . . never put the Evo head on . . . ). Mechanically, other than the frames and a few odd parts, the "standard" spare parts are the same . . .

And if Hirobo is true to form, you should be able to fit the new head when it comes out . . .

Xspec or the new Vibe?

A 50 will never fly like a 90. End of story...

ok I have a silly question? Could I run a YS91 on 15% nitro?

Doesnt the new Evo have a bigger tank?

I was also looking at crash cost for the Xpsec being highing since it has the carbon lower frames. The Evo would be cheaper. What are the differences between the two?

You are correct: Carbon frame replacement would be more expensive.
The larger 600cc tank will fit on an X-Spec but it doesn't come with the X-Spec kit.

Personally, I think you would be very happy indeed with the std. Hirobo Freya Evo. It will do everything you want and more, is fully tunable, is super reliable, is inexpensive and is a quality machine from when you open the box.

There isn't a whole lot of difference in weight as the new Evo utilizes a high graphite content main frame that are lighter than the original Freya frames. I think my machines come out ready to fly but without fuel at under 11lbs.

Ok next question or questions?

servo recommendation?

battery size? I think I will run a lipo, but how big of one. I want to be able to fly alot without charging. Having the blade, I really hate the short flight times plus the long charge time.

cheap blades? Is there such a thing? I dont think I need to greatest blade at first. My Freya had some Hirobo fiberglass blades with it, but looking around on the net I dont see them. Are they not available anymore?

Mind is made up on the Evo,JR would be my second choice. Kinda odd that I dont like the Align products, but I am weird like that. Always been into high quality products...

Answer 1, cheap blades suck. 2, i fly 2700 nimh and swap after 3-4 flights. 3 , the upgraded auto hub is no longer included.

cdh,I run a futaba nicad 1500 mah pack and usually get 3 flights before a recharge is due.

If I can get 3 flights in a row on one day I am doing good due to kids and the whole family thing!!

I think he was asking about the new one that was released mid last year, and which as never included in the kit. Alas, that deal is also over - you can still buy it, but it will cost you a lot more $$$ that when the deal was running . . .

The metal EX unit was the one in the kits, and that can be had for a lot less $$$ than the other one, and is still an upgrade from stock.

Oh, and IIRC, the X-Spec kits *did* have the EX auto hub, so that may be a reason to consider the X-Spec deal at Rick's after all . . . .

Heliproz has the Freya EVO 90 for $600. Could someone explain the differences?

Thanks, Jim

The X-Spec is a fully carbon lower frame and the older head, with a metal head block and washout. The Evo is all plastic with the newer head and a couple of other minor tweaks . . . .

The last I saw, the X-Specs at Rons/HP-South *had* the Evo head parts as well as the older metal head parts so you could build it either way, not sure if that changed or not . . . I didn't think MRC had any X-Spec kits that they hadn't put the Evo plastic head parts into . . .

(Just looked at HPS, and you are right, now offering with just the older head. Myself, I *like* the older head, but that's just me . . . ). Getting tempting to get another one . . . *twitch* *twitch* . . . .
