I'm afraid you can't get into turbines for that kind of money. Most turbine engines start around $2500.00 and up. A full size turbine pod and boom will cost you about $10,000 if you started from scratch.

On top of that I can't imagine putting a turbine in a 30/50 size heli - that would have to be one tiny turbine

I've seen the JetJoe stuff for a while now but that Kolibri is new to me. Amazing how small and light it is at 200g. Very cool.

Alas, at 2100 Euro the engine alone with no mechanics or airframe is already over $3200 at todays rate.

T-REX450XL,Just followed your link, to the small turbine
Couple of questions
It is a Jet turbine,What are you going to do about the thrust?
If it was, Turbo shaft, how would you mount it?
What size fuel tank?
Where would you fit the fuel tank?

Hang on a minute folks am I being a bit, hasn't someone forgoten to spot the absence of a gearbox?
T-rex those turbine motors although small have no means of converting the thrust into mechanical power ie, gearbox
Also, I think that the Jet jos, although cheap are well........you get what you pay for let's say.
To my knowledge the smallest heli engine is the Wren 44 but it's more that your budget.
Why not buy a good second hand engine/helicopter that's a bit bigger,(they fly better anyway)that's the cheapest way in.

Ross, In his 2nd post, he mentioned turbo shaft, hence my question, the way he would mount that would be vertical, it would have an ammazing rate of climb,
You going to the Vario Northern next week?

Ah yes yes, I'm with you now, and the vertical acsent would cause the rotors to spin in positive pitch!! A kind of Auto Rotation in reverse
You know Peter you may be onto something there, do it before someone else does!

Sorry T-rex, we can be serious sometimes, anyway he started it........

Right I'm being serious now OK, look you can tell because this my serious face (Bell Bloke points finger at his serious face)
Although Please don't talk about Jet Joe or I'll laugh, see, now I'm smirking from only writeing the words Jet Joe.............

By the way T-rex have you flown the T-rex 600 electric? It's the best heli that I have ever flown........It's like.......a...
Well if were a car it would be a Lotus, light agile fast and precise with no vices or nasty habbits, better than a Ferrari or Lambo anyday. I really like the T-rex 600, only one problem......you can't fit a turbine in it............Ah so that's why you want a tiny turbine. Do you think Wren would take up the challenge and make a 2 stage Wren 33 that runs at 250,000 rpm and has a gearbox the size of an egg cup?
