Alright, I've read every single post I could find regarding this problem. The best I could come up with was using the spin the motor over with the glow plug out method, hogging out the holes on the frame and trying to align the motor. I have a stock bell that had the liner glued in. I tried a second one. I replaced the clutch with a new one. No matter what I do the blades grab at idle. I inspected everything on a frame change (after a crash), and the problem went to the new frame. Bearings all seem good and free with no notchiness.

If I turn the bell by hand there is absolutely no interference...free as can be. If I put the starter on the shaft and pulse it I can see that at a RPM below the max of the starter everything is fine, but once the starter is at full speed the blades start moving. I can't lower the idle enough on the motor to stop the blades from moving without it quiting.

I can fly, but it's embarrassing when you're flying with T600 guys...other than this one gripe I love my R50.

it could be the clutch itself. make sure that its not spread at all, or it could be weak. try and replace it with a heavy duty.

Raptor 50 Titan with DX7, GY401, and TT Redline 53 is Awsome!

Thx for the reply OKH. This clutch was just inspected with less than a dozen flights and no signs of wear and the gap is consistent from the hole to the end of shoes. My old clutch had turned blue from a hot start and I thought for sure that the new one was going to fix the problem...but no luck.

Plane-
Just firing it out there...
Does the clutch show signs of rubbing against the top of the bell?
IF so, did you install the washer when you put on the fan hub, if you did then it may be rubbing the clutch against the top of the clutch bell.. Hey it's just a thought!
If not, take the engine out and set it up where you can put a dial indicator on the fan and look for run out, you may have a "wobble" that causes the clutch to contact the bell (though RPMs aren't high) which will cause the blades to spin.... You with me on that!
I've seen that before! Clutch shoe is attached to fan, fan has wobble, clutch drags enough against the inside of the bell to keep the blades turning!
I am just throwings some things to look at to help find the problem!

Thanks PnP. I pulled the motor today and checked run out and it was out less than .001 so I'd have to say the clutch is true to the motor crankshaft.

I then hogged out the motor mount holes some more and loosely remounted the motor. I then put my starter to it and I could hear my starter load up and free up as I moved the motor into different positions. I picked the best one and started locking the bolts down one at a time. As it stands right now it's better than it's ever been. I'll try starting it up tomorrow to see if indeed my blades stay put at idle.

plane--
glad to hear it!
Sad to say, but Raptors can have "some" small flaws. Yours may be in the engine alignment holes you had to hog/enlarge out. Blame it on today's quality machining and production products. Trust me Raptor isn't alone in this field... Many manufacturers have the same problems....
Lest us know how it works out!

Well, it's better, not perfect, but a lot better. The blades will actually stay put at a low idle. If I increase a click on the trim they start moving, but slowly.

Hey at least they don't try to bite my hand off anymore when starting. Maybe I'll think of another idea to try sometime, but right now I'm out of them.

Thanks for all the help.

hi there

i had EXACTLY the same problem with my rap 30 v2. nothing short of what you have described. well the the fix for it was - i bought a new bell and a clutch. THAT SORTED EVERYTHING OUT.
till i got to the solution, i tried bearings i tried liners i tried replacing just the clutch. nothing worked out as changing the both the bell and the clutch. now i have never had this issue come up again.

Darn Chand, I already changed those parts. I'm gonna try one more time by hogging the holes out just a tad more and see if I can find that sweet spot once and for all.
