Radio - Servo - Gyro - Gov - Batt > JR 770 / 8900G - Bounce ! Help?

I have 2 helis with this combo JR770/8900G and they both bounce when I stop a piro.

Heli 1 - R90 SE / YS 90 and Heli 2 - Trex 600N / YS 50

I have the gain in HH (JR9303) at about 55% and the end points at 150 as the JR instructions. I have messed with the gain, rates and expo but although they hold the tail like a vice I get a bounce of about 15 deg on the piro stops.
I did a search and I can find others with a similar problem I cannot find the solution. They are both on lipo/reg setup @ 6V with step down for the servo, and they are both with the sensor forward mounted. They are both a little on the rich side, one with a new liner and the other a new engine. Anybody help ?

Could it be the forward mounted gyro?

nickwap,

Are you using the 50% expo as recommended? I had a 770/8900 combo on my 600N until recently. I found that anything less than 45% expo would cause bounce as you described. My setup was behind the main mast instead of in front. But that shouldn't matter. I was also using a 65% TX gain (HH 30% gyro) and a Futaba radio.

If the expo doesn't cure it, try remounting with Zeal tape. You may be getting a bit of angular momentum rotation in the mounting with the standard tape.

I had the expo at 50 as instructions, I think I will go back to basics and start a clean set up I found this on the web while I was surfing.

"The following instructions were passed on by "Helinutz" from the Runryder on line Heli community. Someone who was having problems initially setting the 770 up used them and found straightaway that the Gyro was "solid".

I quote.... "I spoke to a acknowledgeable chap in Hong Kong when I was there last. He told me pretty much to set it up as per the instructions. I do use the gyro screen as I use JR gear.

I use 150% left and right on the RUDDER channel atv's ( and don't change them)

I use 100% on the gain channel atv's and don't change them. (unless you use the atv's to set your gain and not a gyro dedicated screen)

Set your limits mechanically so you are using about 70 to 80% of the range of the limit pot on the gyro. Move control balls to suit as required.

On my evo 50 I had to move the tail ball in one hole as I didn't have a big enough wheel or an arm servo that sat perfectly at 90 degrees at the servo end

Standard stuff. 0 trim, 0 subtrim, servo direction and gyro sense direction. In this present state without the gyro screen activated it will be asking for 100% gain so don't give up here.....the servo will be going nuts if you turn it on.

Set up your dual rates to suit the piro rate you want for the various idle up modes. I started with 70% Set up 50% expo softer in the mid of course for all idle ups.

Activate the gyro screen and set 64%. Thats a great starting point. This should help with any stops overshooting the mark and the nose turning back 10 or so degrees, settle the servo down and desensitize in the center stick position.

I asked about the brutal stops and he smiled and said "you learn to be more gentle with your fingers when stopping" Let the stick spring back to center on this one and it stops....dead....so just adjust your expo and slow your stops down manually."

I hope this helps in initially setting up your G770T Gyro. Obviously each system will be slightly different but its a good starting point to use as it has been tried & tested."

I had the similar problem with G770T when I was using 20mm hole in servo horn. After that, I moved one hole inward on the servo horn. It is about 17mm now, then the bouncing-back problem went away. But tail is not really solid when I don't have any rudder input. My gyro gain is 64 on DX7. I am planning to go in more...just to see what it does.

Thanks for those that replied FYI, I set up the Trex as the info I had found on the web, thanks 'Helinutz' I had to reduce the gain and the piro rate slightly - I ended up with 59% in HH (on a JR9309)and 55% on the rudder atv now its as solid as a rock - big tail slides no drama, and a nice constant piro rate in FFF. I think the 'problem' I had was too low a gain in HH
I shall have a go with the R90 next weekend starting with the same settings, but I'm confident I have it now sorted.
