Yep, sorry forgot about those. I'd tie them with the 8717s and the 9452s are one step down, though stil very capable.

According to the Futaba website the BSL-451 does have metal gears.

I've flown the following in mine, listed in order of preference...

CCPM

- 8717 @ 8v
current setup - THE best option by a LONG shot
very nice feel around center, super fast, crazy torque. Tell the heli to do something and it's got no choice

Don't get your fingers caught between the swash and the frames during setup - don't ask me how I know.

- 9451/9452 @ 6v
nice feel, strong enough

- atx 92758 @ 6v
nice feel, fast but could notice the low torque if gorilla'ing the sticks in say sloppy nose down tic toks

- 9351 @ 6v
good torque, work ok

Throttle

- 9254 / 9253 + MultiGov / GV-1

t/r

- 8900G / 9256 + Spartan ds760 / 611 (925x only of course)

How do you guys achieve 8V from 2S Lipo for the 8717.

They don't.....

How do you guys calculate 8v? Even if you hook up straight to the battery, you will draw down to a little over 7v but I don't think it will stay at 8v because it is not regulated.

Servo's and additional onboard electronics don't draw that much current.
A lipo, under a 3 or 4 amp load, noncontinuous isn't going to drop off that much.

Look at this chart from Thunder Power. It's typical.

The individual cell voltage is only a half to a quarter volt difference between a 2C and 25C discharge.

The battery packs these guys are using are usually 2.2Ah to 4.2Ah.
They're typically rated for 16C to 25C.
Your servo's and all the electronics on board will draw about 4A at the most.
That is only 1C or 2C depending on the size of the pack.

These aren't Nickel batteries they're using here.

I wonder if this will hold true to running 8717's with different type lipos or batteries?

I think staying regulated it safer as I have read that those 8717's can draw up to 2amps per servo by themselves.

Just IMO....

an unregulated 8717 setup will consume about 400 to 500 mAh on a single flight, depending on how hard you fly.

I doubt they're drawing 2A each.
