Got Jet Fuel? Turbine Helicopters > JetCat Fuel Pump

Could someone let me know the life expectancy for the JetCat fuel pump?
I changed the fuel lines yesterday and today I was going to purge the air out and the fuel pump didn't work. I increased the voltage and I just heard the sound of the valve opening, but the fuel wasn't been pumped at all.

unfortunatly there is no certain life expectancy,
i have had one last a month and i have had one last a lot longer.

If you are confident you can take them apart and lubricate the gearing, but i personally would feel it stopped working once it could again, and when flying a few thousand dollars of machine around why take the risk for a 200$ part.

The only thing they hate is being run dry, i was always told before running it for the first time to suck fuel through it first so all the parts are lubricated.

Ae, Like Matt said, there is no set hours for how long they will last,
The Pump is probably the most important part, I tend to have a spare, as I have been caught out a couple of times
I did write an article on how to service the pump, it will be OK, for the time it takes to get a replacement
The pump will only run for less than 30 sec;s without fuel, the gears in the pump fuse together and there is no fixing that
I prime the system with the hand pump, valves open, there is enough pressure, to get through the pump,

Thanks for the information. And I agree to buy a new one. Someone told me that already. There is no reason to try to repair something that cost few hundred dollars and you have an investment of several thousand dollars.
Hey Peter you never get stuck, you have few ECUs, few Pumps, etc,etcc..

AE,

Since you are in the states, you might want to get a Flight Works pump. I replaced the stock pump on my Wren and have had great luck with this pump. They are also reasonably priced.

Here is the link. http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.../it.A/id.125/.f

First I'd try plugging it into a battery with wrong polarity for a quick burst. Say a 6 volter or something, I have had it a few times that a pump has locked up due to something in it. With the low voltage that the ECU delivers it just locks up and is not enough to force it through. Spinning it backwards pushes the crap out. Worth a try and it'll cost you nothing.

Mick.Good idea, the pump is rated at 6 volts,if you pump fuel through, collect the wasted fuel into a container, then put it through a fine filter to see what was in the pump
Tip 1, if you are going to run your pump at any time, for whatever reason, make sure it is plumbed into a simple, fuel system
Tip 2,If you are going to store your pump, fill a short length of fuel pipe with fuel, connect to the 2 nipples, this will stop the pump from drying out and getting crap in it
lperagallo, Lou, That pump might work on the Wren, Wren pumps do not work on JetCat turbines, Sara ( Where is that Lady?) from Wren sent me a couple down, they have different gearing and will not supply enough fuel
AE, and box's of new turbines/mechanics/fuselages, for all the new projects, now I am officially retired

Peter,

First Sara has been banned. She hasn't been able to post in about a month. Chris Bergen was also banned. Something about breaking the rules when they were responding to questions about the MW44.

The pump from Flightworks I'm talking about is not a Wren pump, it's a replacement. It is supposed to be more consistent then the Hausel that is stock with Wren.

Take a look at the specs and you will see that it should work. While I don't have the Jetcat specs for fuel consumption (although you can figure it out from everything that's been written), there is a detailed specification sheet on the Flightworks site.

This is direct from their site:

Turbojet fuel pump - Model 400-B

Our newest addition, Model 400-B, is compatible with all ECUs on the market and was developed as a direct replacement for stock pumps from major turbojet manufacturers such as JetCat, RAM, TJT, FTA, and others. It is suitable for turbines up to 34 lbs (15.4 kg / 151 N) thrust.

Included and factory installed:

Stainless steel mounting bracket

RF (radio frequency) suppression PCB

So it should work fine.
