Hi. I"m considering getting a Maxi-Joker 2 to do some robotics stuff on (or at least telemetry stuff...I need something to use my robotics-oriented electronic projects on). Anyways, I was thinking about using 14S2P A123 packs. It's 50V max, but under load at 20C discharge it's supposed to dip all the way down to 35V. I'm not going to load it anywhere near 10kg(I don't think so anyways), but the cost is just so close to that of a Mini-Joker and Joker.

I'm also not entirely sure whether I should go with a inrunner (the Plettnberg) or an outrunner. THe arguments about direct drive advantage of outrunner for planes don't realy hold up in choppers since it's always geared so I can't decide right now. THe Plettenberg looks like a realy nice motor, but it's also very expensive. I like how inrunners run cooler than outrunners since the windings are on the case (though this appears to be under debate too since for outrunners are roomier and the magnets dissipate heat better since they are on the outside of the case, but the heat is generated on the windings at the center...big debate, anyways). What I don't like though is how fast the inrunner might have to spin.

Even though the Plettenberg is probably much better balanced than a cheaper outrunner, I'm thinking that any imbalances that still exist are just amplified because it's an inrunner and spinning so much faster making it somewhat on par with a slower spinning, less well balanced outrunner.

Any opinions?

EDIT: It's also come to my attention that the gearing on the Joker is not as flexible as I thought it was? Meaning I might not just be able to up the voltage to increase efficiency while gearing down to keep the same head speed?

I've been running my maxi 2 on 12s lipo, but have a 14s2p a123 pack ready to go, but haven't flown the heli with that. I've used the pletti, and the 32-4, and I think the 32-4 stays cooler, but I wish I had a pletti to test again, now that there are smaller pinions available.

Rhett... There's no power like E Power!

WHat is the largest gear ratio available right now?

I'm having trouble finding out what the available gear sizes are for pinion and driver gears.
