QuickWorldWide Ep and Wet Fuel Helis > Octane V2 EI Gasser - Just unpacked it!

I just received my V2 Gasser and what a nice helicopter. QWW did a great job on the build and it arrived very neatly packed to avoid any damage. Irwin has been good walking me through the few questions that I had with the final assembly. The parts quality is really amazing. This is a serious helicopter. All the parts fit precisely. When I received it, all I had to do was bolt on the tail boom, insert and fasten the head and blades, and affix the skids. well worth the 500 dollars for the 4 day custom build. The EI is installed neatly and they did a very clean installation of the servos. The only adjustment I had to make was to reposition the ball links in the tail slider to get the tail blades centered. I plan on setting up the radio this weekend and perhaps break-in and maiden flight. After I am comfortable with flying the bird my intentions are to install into a Huey or Hughes 500 D.

I will keep this up to date and post pictures of the EI installation if anyone is interested.

I live out GA 400 in Cumming GA. Typically my front yard, I live on 1 acre. With the Gasser I am thinking First Redeemer Church or large football field. I have been wanting to fly with some heli-guys but stay away from the plane stuff.

I will post some pics of my canopy and ariframe tonight.

I have helis, planes, and gliders, and fly at an actual airport. It is a private grass runway with some hangars and houses.
I'm usually the only guy out there flying...

Got a buddy in Marietta that flies helis, and a few guys in Newnan that fly also.

Looks nice!! Now I want the V2 style frames for my gasser. During break-in you'll probably see some vibes. After than, the machine is very smooth.

I now have about 15 minutes on it. Stopped to tighten some bolts. I am waiting now for my Dynatron starter with Lipo, the Hobbico 90 with 12 volt was not cutting it with the Zenoah 26. The EI seems to work well, nice and smooth at idle.

I am hoping to eliminate some vibration once broken in.

Why don't you just use a pull start? Having to use a starter kills a HUGE advantage of flying a gasser.

Eury,
Some schools of thought on the pullstart are that it puts a little drag on the engine and the performance is off a little with it attached. Also in this "lighter is always better" heli world, removing the pull start does save a good bit of weight.

I know performance suffers with the pullstart, that's why my Predator has a removable one, give it a 1/8th turn and it's locked on to start the heli, turn it the other way and it's off. Pretty simple mechanism, and faster than getting the electric starter hooked up and going. I thought everyone used that. I'm sure it could easily be adapted to the QWW heli.

IT'S YOUR CHOICE...

We use a SULIVAN Dynatron ON 5s 3p LI-PO that's 18.5-21 volts...
One need package. One charge last FOR months...enough power to start a 57 Chevy...

Pull start is ok for you purists...for me 1/2 a squeeze & the motor is running. Beats a cold weather pull starter any time.

PLEASE SEE SUL1705 ON THE WEBSITE....

I think a removable pull start is the way to go. I know a lot of the other gasser guys have theirs set up that way. Mine justs stays bolted to the bottom. The performance and weight that it adds doesn't hurt my flying style. I use my top start for my generator..

FLYERS CHOICE

We will offer shortly a generator adaptor that will attach to the crankshaft instead of a pull start on the motor bottom.
Our new V2 26 or 20CC will also have TWIN TANK options for very long aerial work & a generator will be a good safety net.

WE will still have the top start as normal.

PLEASE POST REMOVABLE PULL START CONFIGURATION. THANKS

the removable pull start is nice. they just take and had keyway holes put in the mount of the pull starter and you put small shoulder bolts in place of the regular bolts. that way the bolt heads are off the base about an 1/8" then you just place pull start on twist it to lock in place. after started you just reach under twist other way and it pulls off. or you can bolt it in place and make it non removable. only thing you gotta keep in mind when using removable. is just that you better remove it or well bad things could happen if it managed to come loose during flight.

Flew for about an hour today, a couple of minor tweaks, should have her flying like the real thing once I am comfortable with the break-in.

How does a pull start put drag on the engine and affect performance?

The Zenoah pull start completely disengages from the metal part threaded onto the crank....Even when hard mounted to the heli......
