| #1, if you don't have a heat gun, get one. You'll be using it on many things besides this. If you don't have a heat gun, DO NOT use a torch. Go out and buy a heat gun. Torches discolor metals.
#2, use the T-bar phillips screwdriver/spark plug remover wrench that comes with the motor, it fits the phillips screws with no slop.
Heat the motor base plate with the heat gun until its nice and hot. Can take about 1 to 2 minutes to do so.
Use the screwdriver provided to remove these screws. Push hard IN onto the screw head as you attempt to turn it. If not budging heat it some more and try again.
With heat and the right tool, it will come out without damage to the screw head. Many folks seem to have issues with this, the reason being no heat is being used with an improper screwdriver would be my best guess as to why.
