[quote]Matt ,
This is so great you really know your stuff!

That has probably made some of the posters on here spit out ther false teeth with laughter, i got that info from a previouse thread on turbine kits, Sara who used to be on here posted that comment, and as it was back a few pages i copied and pasted it,
" she sent me an email protesting i did not acknowlege she was the Author"

I have been flying turbines for 18months/2yrs, and at first have struggled with them, as they did scare me, i loved flying my PHT3 in a hotcat, and regretted selling it, i then tried the large XLV conversions, smaller pod and boom Acrobatic with 2 stage turbine, and have found adapting to a turbine from my competition 90 size Nitro machine uncomfortable due to the mass and cost.

I preferred my PHT3, and, got very comfortable with that , which is why i am having a new one built, well i started building it, took it down to a friend and they stripped it back down and rebuilt it doing some mods on the way.

Like you i have absorbed a lot of info,i like to know why things work on a turbine, so i know the manual and know how to programme the ECU well, i got a lot of help from JETCAT owners on here with the mechanical side, and gradually picked up other stuff, i would have never have attempted changing an o ring, but i have managed to do a couple of them without the need for re soldering, plus done other things, i have learnt how to programme the ECU and make changes and understand the effects of those changes. etc,

Basically all it is, is a bigger more expensive power plant, once you get over that mental worry, they are a real pleasure to fly as i have found.
Which is why i am going back to the PHT3, i preferred this turbine above the other.

i am just waiting for it to be completed as i have changed the head to a Raptor 90 quick uk all metal head, and a few other parts.

i hope he gets a move on.

Changing "O" ring

mcfast, re read that Post, still say no cyno required, another point to mention, with the PHT3 it is important to align the starter motor with the turbine shaft, miss-alighment means excessive wear to the starter "O" ring

Turbine Exhust pipe

Hi everyone I have a question to everyone when I run my turbine, I noticed the exhaust manifold has turned a slight shade of yellow. I was told that's normal not to worry about it. But on the other had I also get some small dark brown corrosive patches, and I polish them out after every flight. Because when you spend that much money I don’t want to look at ugly brown patches. Can any one please give me a tip on how to keep the exhaust tip from not getting this way?

I was told there is something on the market that is made for chrome exhaust pipes for motorcycles manifolds, I know they get very hot . This stuff helps it from not getting so corroded from the heat. Does any one have any suggestions?
Thanks

turned a slight shade of yellow.

James wait until it changes, to dark blue/ purple, then start worrying, because then it is getting very hot

color under the rainbow

James, If you have accesss to a heat tempering chart, you can work out the temperature required, to get these colours, the one to really worry about, is cherry red, especially when its inside the fuselage

Hi Doug
Thank you very much ! I will look into that if i can polish off some of it once in awhile maybe i can keep it looking more new looking . Then just letting it go . I guess i really like stuff to shine, you can't guess it's age that way.
i will go buy a bottle.
