didn't you also buff the main and tail shafts to get them to slide smoothly

or split the upper frame to loctite the inner race on the intermediate shaft and did you loctite the support bearing for the torque tube to prevent it from moving around.

or how about widening the frame holes where the tank sits to include some fuel tubing to act as an insulator to prevent the tank from wearing pin holes in the tank.

Like I said it isn't a high quality kit but you get your moneys worth

BM,

Yes to buffing main shaft, yes to retaining compound on bearings, but of course.
No to widening the frames, my helis run so smooth that I have had no problems with the fuel tanks after 80+ hours on last Hawk.
T-Tube, yes to retaining compound again.....but of course.

You used to build muscle cars right?
How does any of the above seem out of place when building a machine?

I think you'll have to fly other brands before you'll appreciate Century.

HH you got me there , your right the only other kit I've built is a trex450 but it went together with no fuss or muss.

someday I may try a JR product or a MA heli , but for now Century is my hot rod and fits my wallet and I can almost build em blind folded.

once I get settled in, I'll finish the chrome Hawk I been working on,
all black metal is now chrome (buffed aluminum). Should look wild

well, for the record, i have personally owned, built and flown the:

JR Vigor
Kyosho Nexus 30
Blade CP Pro
Align 450
Align 600N
Century Predator (baught it used, but i have had it broken down)
and now the Century Raven

JR is nothing to get excited about, century is as good or better then JR in terms of quality, but JR at sometimes 4 times the cost...ever pay $50 for a main shaft?...i have... the JR machines have enourmous parts count, and are way over designed. they are more complicated then they need to be. the parts list goes on for several pages, while the predator easily fits on one side of one page. my Vigor weighed a tone (12 pounds RTF), handled like a brick on rails, and i spent more time wrenching away on it then i did flying it...i nearly quit the hobby because of it.

Kyosho Nexus, once you get the bugs out, its a great heli, my JR Vigor gave me far more trouble then my old nexus ever did.

the 450...i flew it for the third time this week when the power cut out to the motor for a yet to be determined reason, and wrote it off.

600N, went together well, but i would hate to see that thing crash. i never got to fly it though.

Blade CP...i wont even start on how much of a POS that thing is. i sold it in a couple months.

last but not least, my Predator is my pride and joy, one of my best investments into the hobby. it has given me the least trouble of all machines, cost me less, handles the best, the most reliable, and its very affordable.

sofar even without flying the Raven, im pretty happy with it.

Now I want to line the frames with fuel line just cause it looks so sexy.

Probably save me a tank down the road to.

get some of the fuel tank liner from the predator kit, it will last much longer then fuel tubing. fuel tubing will split after a while and be useless.

No, it's the kit offered by Mark @ MJP...great quality stuff. At the time, (Feb 2007), he was machining new aluminum parts to fit the newer style Century kits. My only mod to his kit was the tubing around the tank, as well as purchasing an extra radio plate to build the two-tier set-up in the pics. I was really pleased with how it turned out...tons of room for mounting electronics. As for weight, the last time I weighed her she was a bit heavy at about 7.9 lbs dry, but she flys really well. Over 6 gallons on her now and, knock on wood, no crashes. My only gripe is the tail box rotates on the boom slightly, but doesn't affect flight. I currently have a Predator metal tail assembly that a friend is machining to adapt to the Raven boom...should be sweet if ever get around to putting it on.

well, i finally have it all put together, i just have to finish figuring out how to arrange the electronics, and get some servo horns for the swash. i dont have any long enough, so no flying till then.

at the moment, with everything on it, bone stock, minus the control horns, it comes in at 7.5 pounds. which i think is pretty impressive. i didn't think the weight would be that low with the metal frames.
