I was doing successive aileron flips to inverted a couple of weeks ago and bent a hardened mainshaft in flight. I got it upright and landed with no damage other than a bent mainshaft.
Since then I have been studying, measuring, and ordering parts to get away from the 6mm mainshaft. It just wasn't designed for 3D. I ended up with a mainshaft from a Esmart at 8mm. I ordered the mainshaft bearings(8x12)and the new oneway(8mm) from VXB. I used a rotor head and swash from a Lepton but a Trex 500 would probably have worked too. The Trex 500 and the Lepton mainshafts are too short.
I have about a dozen flights on it with this setup and I really like it. The most time consuming part is machining the maingear housing to accept a larger one way. I am currently looking for a off the shelf main gear housing.
Simages, I like what you have done with your Eco's.

Bent main shaft

I also bent a main shaft on my Royal, it was primarily due to the fact that the tracking would go out during flight. I struggled long and hard before finally switching the blade grips over 180 degrees. This was first recommended my a guy on RCGroups, Linxman. I also installed a new hardened main shaft and this has cured the tracking problems. My Royal now flies very well and it's turned into my favorite helicopter. I agree that the 6mm main shaft is weak and subject to bending, your idea of switching to a larger more robust 8mm shaft is a very good idea. Keep us posted on your progress, I'd be interested in hearing how it flies now.

New tail and paint job.

Finally did domething about the plastic tail on my Eco. The cf boom was slowly cutting the plastic tail. It was hard to keep the one attachment bolt tight throught the vert fin so the bolt didn't work on the boom and oblong the hole.
I just started turning on the lathe and finally ended up with an aliuminum tail housing that clamped around the outside of the boom. It is incredibly light. The boom clamp portion of the tail housing is 1mm thick. With only slight tension on the pinch bolt the tail housing is immovable.

I painted the plastic canopy with Krylon fusion spray paints for plastic. I let it dry for a week and clear coated it with urethane automotive clear coat.

Wow! That tailbox is nice. You could easily sell a few of those over on RCGroups.

If I had some better machining equipment I would consider it. Right now it is just too time consuming to make it worthwhile.
Thanks for the compliment, though. I just like the Eco so much I refuse to let it die. They stop selling parts I make my own!

Nice try Greybird.....

I'd buy one....BeltFedBrowning

That's the one aluminum piece my ECO lacks.

And nice work on both tail and Canopy!
