what are you guys running this combo (50 as well)setting your radio at (JR) for gain ? My tail seems to drift a little and kicks on full throttle up. Have my sensitivity at 75.

Have you adjusted it mechanically in rate mode? That usually takes care of any drifting. As far as sensitivity, I do a little trading off as far as amount of hold vs. how much the tail servo has to work. If I dial up the gain to get a rock solid tail, my 9254 gets warm. That's a bad thing. I'm keeping the servo cool, still have reasonable holding power, but not rock solid. If I pour on the collective, I will get a mild swing.

75 is only telling the gyro to have 50%gain

thats the difference between Futaba and JR

on your JR Tx, the gain from 0-50 = RATE mode
and from 51-100 = Heading Hold
therefore 51% on JR =2% HH for the 401

try bumping it up to 80-85% and see how it goes, otherwise try the next size up tailblades

on my Sceadu, my 401 seettings are at 80% in HH mode, and im running ALL Futaba gear

and 80% would be 90% on your JR Tx.

...hope this helps...

You need to set the gyros center mechanically and did you flip the switch three times quickly to set the center I agree with Markerbeacon if not done it will always be a little off this step is overlooked check the directions and read it over one more time

Check these web pages out It may help you Good flying

Menace, how do you come up with the conversion for the JR radio gain? Ex. 75 is telling the gyro is 50%, 80% would be 90%
Thanks.

That wouldn't be correct.

On the JR radio
0-50=Rate mode
51-100=Heading Hold

So, a setting of 50 on the transmitter nets you zip gain on the gyro in heading hold mode. And of course a setting of 100 on the transmitter nets you full gain in heading hold mode. Then just calculate the rest:
50=0
60=20
70=40
75=50
80=60
90=80
100=100

sorry guys, i meant 80% of HH would be 90 on the Transmitter

the way i have always done the 401 with awesome success is set all trims assoc with rudder/gyro to 0

have the gyro in RATE mode and put the rate to 25 on the Tx

now, spool up to get light on the skids and see which way the tail is drifting because we want to achieve a rock solid hold in RATE mode in a hover

then land, switch everything to HH mode at 75 on the Tx, have a little test hover, then go into FFF and keep an eye on the tail.

if all goes well, then u never have to touch again
