e-Electric General Discussion > Is this the same motor as the Z-power 30-800?

Seems priced the same and looks identical, just says Tonic-X instead of Zpower. Same motor just rebadged? same quality maybe, maybe not?

I bought a Tonic-X motor from Helidirect- came labeled ZPower in a ZPower box. Cool. Like the motor too (Z30A, 1110kv)

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

Yea, I just bought the Z30-800 from them today. I'll be using it on 12S A123, should be fairly zippy

Ooh, yes you'll like the power. What capacity of those cells- or are you running 12S2P?

I'll be running 12S1P on the Logo 500. I'm modifying the frames to make it even more lightweight to compensate for the added weight of the cells.

Yeah, I've thought about A123 cells on the Trex 600, but don't think I want the added weight; running 2300mAh capacity pack would make for very short flight times. The 600 airframe could use some lightening too, though.

I do not think a 12s1P pack will fit. I had a 10s1P pack that I had to make a certain way so that it would fit because of the pinion. How are you going to configure it?

I'm going to configure the pack 2 by 4 on bottom and 2 by 2 on top.

Just got the motor today, looks good and half the price of Neu I was probably going to get, but after lots and lots of people saying this motor runs cooler, I figure in Vegas when where easily over 100 degrees out, a cooler running motor is a good thing.

You guys know to put a collar above the top bearing on the motor- the shaft may move down under load if you don't. I chewed up a Trex600 main gear learning this the hard way. A main shaft collar from my 450 heli, between the bearing and the pinion, easy solution and no more migrating motor rotors.

You did this on a Z30 or a align motor? I don't see where a collar could go on the shaft for the Z30A I have. I heard that type of issues with the first Z30's but the second Z30As were supposed to fix the prob.

Check out this thread:
http://www.runryder.net/helicopter/t425546p1/

My Z30A, in a 6S setup on the stock Trex 600, flew great for the first several flights, then had the motor's rotor shift down in flight, stripping half the tooth width off of the main gear (the shaft/pinion shifted down so only half the width of the gear was meshing. It couldn't handle the tic-toc loads )

Per other's advice, I put the collar on top of the motor bearing, sandwiched in with the Mikado pinion, perfect, won't move now.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

The collar keeps the two pieces together the spinning casing and the stationary rotor. What collar did you use?

Whoa! No, just onto the shaft, between the pinion and against the inner race of the top bearing on the motor. The Trex 450 main shaft collar or similar collar has a step, so the small diameter face goes against the inner race of the bearing. You could use a stack of washers, etc.

I'll take a pic tonight. Yes, mines a 1100kV Zpower 30A motor, the 800kV version probably needs it too- in fact, now that you have the motor apart, you see that there is nothing preventing the rotor/shaft from sliding out of the bearing in the end of the case which bolts to the heli mount.

I was doing consectutive aileron tic-tocs when it happened, and with a weaker battery so the motor was bogging. It could be this sort of abuse that led to the shaft/rotor slipping out of the motor case. I didn't want it to happen again, and the fix was simple.

Never, ever, ever, ever give up.

I see now what you are talking about. I was thinking the shaft was coming loose out of the case where it is pressed in, not the entire casing slipping off the rotor during operation! I now see exactly what you are talking about and I agree, when I slipped the rotor out of the case, it was extremely easy and I was wondering what was going to keep it all together when spinning at high speeds during hard 3D. Good looking out.

im still confused lol does it go on the shaft on the outside of the motor right above the pinon? next to that bearing?

The collar fills the gap between the pinion and the lower bearing on the stationary part of the motor that mounts to the heli. Basically prevents the spinning casing with pressed in shaft from pulling upward out of the stationary rotor.

So, from the bearing down order from the picture:
-bearing
-collar
-pinion
