I've been looking into a new radio and was curious what the differences between the 12z and 12fg were. What about the 12z makes it $300 more?

Sound module is one for sure, cant change the timer-volume on the 12FG

Other then that, you have a comparison over here:

Hmmm, doesn't look like there's much of a difference at all. Do you think a timer volume module and the ability to adjust in flight mixture control is worth $300 or so?

Nope, I had a 14MZ, sold it went, DX7, X9303 and now 12FG.

It has the exact same stick feeling as the 14MZ and most of the programming possibilites, and you can run EvoLite 2s 2500's in them and get really good runtimes.

Only thing I dont like is the Timer sound volume, but I dont think its worth $300.

Well, looks like I'll be getting a 12fg before long. I found a guy selling them cheap

The 12Z has spline curves which is nice.

Honestly though, majority of us use a linear pitch curve along with governors for our nitros or flat-line throttle curves for our electric.

That is true, but some of us use the spline curves

If I am not mistaken the 12Z is a little bit easier to program with regards to some of the extra buttons...or maybe I am wrong. The 12FG seems to be missing 2 buttons on the left side of the screen. Maybe it's not a big issue.

Both are really nice radios though.

Well, the battery is a big difference for one. Then there is the ability to more easily split settings between your flight modes.

The 12FG is a great radio and shares most of the features including the kick-a$$ gimbles.

I got ruined a few weeks ago when I flew Bobby's Bandit. He of course has a 12z and I have a DX-7.

I'm scheming hardcore to find a way to get a 12fg or 12z.

Like I said, I found one guy willing to sell one new for $965.

You will love either one, but you'll love the 12z just a little more.

Actually, I like the $350 in fuel better than the $350 in spline curves, case, and little joystick thingy that's going to break someday.

The 12FGH actually looks better, to me anyways.
