e-E-Flite Blade CP CX 400-3D > Blade 400 3D strange tail action

I sometimes have to use trim on my tail. Now nothing strange about that, but in between battery changes, i have to trim to the left then to the right next battery change and sometimes the trim has to be set to zero.

Its the stock setup for the tail. No crashes just battery change.

any help would be much appriciated.

IMO, the stock tail servo doesn't know which way is center. When it was on my tail, it would center right then left, sort of did what it wanted. The servo itself is prob. you problem. I upgraded to a fast analog and haven't had any problems.

Mine had a similar problem out of the box, turned out that tail boom was bent where it presses into the frame, and was rubbing slightly on the belt. Might want to take a look there just in case.

Lots of problems with B400 tails. Everybody that actually flies the thing seems to have them. Mine are all but solved with a new tail case (with way less slop), dsp75 servo and a fabricated push pull linkage. The tail will still blow out under harsh maneuvers or fast rearward flight but I think those are all the gyro's fault. The best part about the servo and tail thing is you can do the whole deal for under $40 bucks on ebay (tails are interchangeable with rex 450 stuff. different blades though). Definately worth while.

You might want to check that the tail pitch slider has no play in it. I had to make a pretty coarse adjustment to my tail control rod to get all the trim out of it. If I flew it with any trim it was impossible to fly backwards. Also make sure you do not move your heli until the gyro has initialized, you will hear the tail servo center when this has happend. I use the stock setup and it fly's fantastic however I am looking at some Trex carbon tail blades to get some more tail authority.

I picked a hell of a day to quit drinking

401 gyro takes care of all the slop.

I have had my blade for over three months. I changed the servos to hs65mgs and the tail to futaba s9257 high speed servo. Had to adjut the linkage going to the tail and added the serov on the boom. Yesterday i added the 401 gyro and it is unbelievable. It holds the tail like no other, i have taking my hands off the tail stick. You have to try it. The eflight gyro is good but this is one of the best. I will post pics later.

Tail wag is caused by too high a setting on your gyro. Take off a percentage point or 2 in HH mode and the wag will go away. The defining moment when you basically answered your own question was when you said "no wag in rate mode". Hope this helps.

A cheap but major improvement for the tail is the trex 450 carbon tail blades. They are a world of difference better than those floppy plastic eflight ones. They fit with no modifications and hold the tail so much better. I was having problems with my blade 400 not even able to bring the tail to the right durring 10 mph winds (flying tail in). It was actually scarry that it wasnt able to do this. I have a 3114 tail servo on, but that was back when i had the eflight tail blades. I put the 450 carbon blades on, got myself back into the exact same situation and the tail was actually able to manuver itself with ease.

not sure if we got off track a little but i dont have tail wag.

It will either drift right or left or not at all after each battery change. So after i put in a new pack i have to hover for a second just so i can see which way it will drift. So one flight i have to set the trim to the right another flight i may have to go right or no trim at all. Its not consistant at all.

Those answers were pretty much directed at Hellrazor.

I started getting a whole bunch of tail wag when I have the gyro in the heading hold mode

For you I'd say it's your tails centering ability (or lack thereof). Too much play in the system and a poor stock tail servo make this a likely situation with the B400. Like I said, the dsp75 and aluminum tail help big time.

Don't forget that even if you do upgrade the servo and tail, it is a cheap gyro too. Nothings going to be rock solid in this price range. There is always going to be a certian amount of stick input. Not much but some. Remembor that we bought this heli because it's a reasonably priced rtf. It's no benz.

sorry. I didn't mean to run off with the thread, I was just trying to avoid a duplicate post. I'll post my problems elsewhere.

I think tail problems are on track enough. Don't worry about it.

Mr.Razor
Did you try taking a couple points off your gyro gain? Did it help?

Mr.Goober
Did you try a new tail servo? Have you tried increasing your gyro gain?

That was one of the first things I tried. I've run the gain down to 51% (which, if I have read the instructions correctly is 2% gain in HH mode) and it still wags.

i have a new servo on the way. I will upgrade to the 401, but i just cant toss away an ok gyro just because its not top of the line. I to belived that i was just the servo, but wanst sure.

As for the thread jack. JACK away. LOL When i get the new tail servo i will post up how she works.

I forgot to mention that after i do trim, the tail is pretty much rock solid. No hard 3d but she stays where i put her.

Thanks for all the info.

Bad gyro

I'm gonna send the 110 back to Horizon. I mounted the G90 from my modded CP, and after a little adjustment, it worked just fine. I have no idea what is wrong with the original one.
