We need change in this country. we need a revolution.

Why do you think most nations in Latin America are going Leftist now. They are tired of the money imperialistic hoarding capitalism that the United States runs.

Instead, these Leftist countries are nationalizing the countries resources and pumping that money back into their economy.

What happened to the synthetic fuel program our government was working on in the mid 80's. It was canceled due to the arabs dropping the price of oil down to 8 dollars a barrel upon hearing we could make synthetic fuel cheaper then they could sell it to us. I think its time to crank it back up.

As it is, the main thrust of tax incentives is to put money into corn growers pockets while adding an additive that makes most engines less fuel efficient.
A perfect example of what happens when government gets involved. It has done nothing for gas prices and will continue to push food prices higher. SO now we have two factors affecting the cost of living. And what have we gained?

And the difference is even though Alaska is a net exporter they dont have the refining capacity to supply demand. So most of their gasoline is shipped in.

Yikes! Oil at $117 a barrel. It has to go down from here, right?

Wrong. In the short term -- say, the next two years or so -- we're looking at bad news about global oil supply that could take the price of a barrel of crude to $180.

Needless to say, today's $3.50-a-gallon gasoline would look cheap if oil prices hit $180 a barrel. At that price for a barrel of oil, gasoline would cost somewhere north of $5.50 a gallon.

The good news is that's about the price, experts now say, that would send global consumption tumbling and oil prices into retreat, as drivers scrambled to find ways to conserve.

Of course, experts once thought $3-a-gallon gasoline would lead to a drop in consumption. The latest forecast from the International Energy Agency calls for global oil demand of 87.2 million barrels a day this year. That would be an increase in consumption of 1.3 million barrels a day from 2007 -- despite a U.S. economic slowdown and soaring oil prices.

So why do I think oil prices will keep climbing for two more years at least?

A terrible coincidence of geology and geopolitics. Just when oil is getting more expensive to produce, the oil industries in three key countries -- Mexico, Russia and Nigeria -- find themselves short of cash. And without that cash, oil production in these countries, and global oil production in general, is headed into a decline.

From what I heard Bush won't even release any of the millions of reserved oil supply either to lower prices.

What we should do is turn Leftist like the Latin American countries, and then we can get discounted oil very cheap from my best friend Hugo Chavez in Venezuela!!!!

Dare you say! He is one of the intellectual elite. The ones that want to run the government because they think they are smarter than everyone else.

This comment of yours regarding Chavez is proof of your disdain for your own country. Chavez isn't helping America. He is pandering to a small clique of it's inhabitants, like yourself, who are so full of hate for their own country, that they are willing to look past the gruesome details of a dictators' rise to power.
Look at what a poop-hole Venezuela has become since he took over. How can there be any doubt that any action Chavez takes is aimed primarily at benefitting himself?

I guess since you love America so much, you don't mind paying $5 bucks a gallon soon for gas.

I don't know know about you, but I love an America that has a Democrat President.

We sure had it good when Bill Clinton was in power. Gas prices nothing like they are now. The economy was also in a boom, with a surplus and absolutely NO Deficit unlike today.

I guess Reagan and Bush 1 were better than Clinton and Carter then:
Carter 77 - 81: 0.65 - 1.35 went up .70 cents
Reagan 81-89: 1.35 - 0.97 <--They went DOWN .38 cents.
Bush 1 89-93: 0.97 - 1.22 went up .25 cents.
Clinton 93-01: 1.22 - 1.63 went up .41 cents.

That is mainly because it would not lower prices. In fact, the lowering of our emergency reserve would raise prices since demand would increase.

The real reason that we pay so much for gas is that we're willing to. World demand has gone up it's true, but the prices from Mexico show that this is an excuse not a reason. (I guess that means their market is less willing to pay more...)

Exactly!!!! Supply and demand at its best. In the US we bought big gas guzzling SUV's and almost 2 cars per family...In Mexico not every family even has a single car.

The US imports 13.15 million bbl/day
Mexico imports 308,500 bbl/day

The US has 6,430,366 km of roads.
Mexico has 235,670 km of roads.

(Source: CIA World Factbook.)

Now we have to compete with China's growing demand. Add in that the dollar has dropped and it just adds up.

A product that I bought from Germany 12 years ago cost me 1200.00. The new price is 1500.00. The price has never changed...The exchange rate was the only thing that did.

That like $2 bucks a gallon for them since the Euro is worth almost double of the American dollar.
