Don't fall for that hype, they both work.

The main thing that pushed me to switch to Spectrum/JR was the range of available recievers and the price.

I also chose the Spektrum/JR route. One of the important factors was the model match feature. I too believe that both technologies are excellent. Futaba can claim such a long experience because they have been in 2.4 for military applications that long. Why they didn't have it ready for consumer R/C applications sooner, I can't answer.
