I just talked to Min Air today and they are actually cutting 111t maingears for the new bandits...but they will work on Ion's and the Electric Stratus setups as well....

This is GREAT news ...so now I can properly gear the Estratus to 11.1:1 for a 12s application...with the Actro 32-3 that is...

Jag,

Best news I've heard in a while! Thanks for sharing this. Any idea of when we will be able to purchase these 111t maingears? Thanks again.

Cheers,
Tom C

Nice,

I suspect Mr. Dremel has to work on the frames to make it fit + be able to slide the motormount/pinion bearing forward enough.

111t main gear..

Okay...so I talked to Min air and they are cutting these main gears right now...so you can get them pretty quickly from what they say...

BAD news is that they are 112mm wide...the 100t main gear is 100mm wide...

WHich means MRMel is right...it will take some tweaking and grinding to make the new gear fit...but it's more than likely possible if you want to spend the time

I looked at my Estratus and there really doesn't appear to be enough meat to grind off...it will require a bit of tweaking to make it work for sure...but I am going to try it out anyways...

Jag,

Thanks for the heads up on the fact that these new 111t main gears are 12mm larger diameter than the 100t gear. Makes sense since the 100t gears were ~15mm larger dia than the 90t one.

Looks like an easy frame mod on my Single Staged Ion-x to shift motor and bearing block ~6mm forward.

MA got back to me and said ~mid-May (hopefully 2008!).

Cheers,

Tom C

If you are in a hurry and have the cash, they can make them now, wanted $100 due to the extra labor to do it.

There is another issue to consider. Stratus canopies are not designed for the bigger gear. Even with the 100T main, I had to heat the canopy to bow out the gear area so it will have 1/4" or so clearance.

I had tough time with 32-3 with 10:1 gearing. However, going with 1915H/1.5Y at 500KV solved all the problems including CC HV. The thorttle curve for the governor high is now at happy 70%.

I wouldn't mind getting a 100T gear that is thicker to take more load.

So, if you go with 111T, will you use larger spacer to open up the back end of the canopy or will you cut out the gear opening?

I already use longer spacer in the back so the canopy wont rub on the batteries (Im running 12s1p 4500-5000).

Yeah, 1915H is the way to go, I run them in both mine.
had an interesting time when I sheered the shaft straight off the other day though, if you havent done so yet, lower the upper bearing mount (for the bearing) to so it uses the upper holes, that will help keeping the stress down on the shaft.

also, replacing shafts in the 19xx series is pretty easy to do yourself, I replace mine with 150mm from SDP-SI, that way I can put a 5mm bearing in the upper block getting even more support.

Do you know if the gear will be same thickness or thicker to handle the brute torque of electric motors? If he makes 50% thicker gear, I will definitely buy one (provided the price isn't crazy).

If it is made for E conversion, there is no reason to keep it at the same thickness other than the material cost reasons.

Red who has the NEU motor in stock?, i have been looking but cant seem to find it, i ordered the 10T Pinion and the adapter from MA, i asked about the 100t main as well as the 111t main, the 100 they ran out of so they will be having more soon, the 111t wont be in full production for maybe another month, so for now i will get a 100T since they will have those much sooner, maybe a week or two i have gutted out all the nitro stuff...Ivan!

Ivan:

My testing shows Neu 1915/1.5Y will be a perfect match with 100t and CC Hv110 (even HV85). Due to slightly lower KV of Neu at 500, it is alos easier in the packs. We have not tested the 12s 3850s but it is a possibility for us. You should stick to 6s5000s for convertability to 600class. It is much easy to get a 600 class throw around heli if you already have the packs.

For Actro 32-3, 111t will be a good option. You can do 32-4 and 93t main wiht 10T for 9.3:1 and get the similar result. However, the downside is that each teeth on main gear sees more force. When the teeth are already stretched to max, it is not a good thing.

Neu 1915 with 100T, Actro 32-3(not 5mm) with 111t pinion. Either case 111T will relatively stronger than 100T for the same head speed as tooth loading will be 10% lower.

Fatter gears that max out the cavity will be the most welcome addition.

Castle Creation is the Neu (pun intended) distributor so you might want to contact them to see if they have the motor.
