It's official...I'm building a Bat 70!

It will be converted from a NIB ND90 kit that I had on the shelf. The conversion parts arrived yesterday and shipping was lightning fast. It was packed and organized very well.

I have opened it all up and the machining is excellent.
The bearings are silky smooth, and there is no stray/excess locktite anywhere. The frames are G-10 and the finish on them looks wonderful. I anticipate everything will go together smooth.

I have a BUNCH of hi-quality pics to start uploading right now....
and I should be able to start the build this weekend.

It will have the PRO tail case, and a PRO head. I am installing a Weston 75 motor with matching two piece tuned pipe. Probably going to run a CSM gyro, Throttle Jockey, and Futaba 9252 servos. Blades will be MS Composite 680mm "3D"

You asked, so here it is!:

I've got more parts on the way from QWW, and need to pick up a few bearings and some hardware.....
I hope to have the motor, rotor head, tail, and skids mounted by next weekend. Then I need to order a left hand header for the tuned pipe, and it will be ready for electronics installation and final assembly.

What I have modified so far...

-Added (8) 3x8x0.5 washers to the inside of the frames where the boom holders are... the boom wouldn't tighten without the frames bowing EXCESSIVELY, so I added the washers and now the boom will tighten without excessive force on the bolts.

-Removed some material from the upper plate on the gas tank cage... this allows MUCH more room for the fuel lines to exit without chafing on the frame.

-Added foam padding to the gas tank to keep it from sliding around in the cage and absorb any vibrations.

-Drilled 4 new holes in the lower frame joiner where the front skids attach... this was done SOLELY to fit the Weston 75 motor.. the large heat-sinks on the back were hitting the front skid. I am also going to add a rubber cushion inbetween the front skid and the mount.

I should have the motor and head installed once my bearings arrive... I ordered hi-quality, hi-speed, bearings for the clutch blocks.
And the rotor head is getting an overhaul since it was a used part off my Quick 60.

The customer service from Irwin and staff has been excellent. And the parts arrive quickly by USPS Priority mail.

man that's hilarious.... I'll bet your Blade CP is MUCH higher quality.

try reading some time... the mods were due to the fit of the Weston motor and personal preference.

If you wanna whine about something go cry in the Avant forum.

Cool... so having the tank mounted loosly to flop around in a carbon box is a good design? how come no one elses heli is like that.

I agree with you comments on customer service. Irwin gets stuff right out to you.

I began breaking in my V2 Octane gasser the weekend. So far so good.

TO EACH THERE OWN

The tank outlets are really not a problem. If you use the vent & fill on on top of another & rotated towards tanks cage outside edge you will find plenty of room without the need for any frame modifications.

I can see why if a builder choose to open the upper frame if they so desired. We will post a few pic's shortly showing how the tank works without any mods...QWW

You can look in my build review of the bat 50. There are a few good pics of the tank in there.

I mostly did it because I didn't want to bend the HARD steel fuel tubes... I like them MUCH better than brass.
And the fuel tank in your pictures is setting crooked in the cage for the fuel lines to clear.

Next, I need to see how the vertical spacing is going to work out for the Weston motor since the motor mounts(holes in the frame) only allow for lateral adjustment.

Brass is much softer than stainless The problem is the SUS is very hard too bend. We use a arbor press too bend the vent pipe too touch the roof of the tank.

Hey whatever works...your build...

the pipes you use are FAR superior to brass... I have to replace the brass tank lines at least twice a season due to them cracking or splitting.

I don't think any two people build a heli the same, and I don't overlook anything when I build. I treat helis with the same respect I show to the race cars I work on.
I am very happy with the build so far.
