Audacity Models Pantera 50 - Tiger 50 > Pantera BBC and the MultiGov

Folks, I got to tell ya.
I have had a MultiGov in the box for several weeks. I pulled it out and installed it in my BBC. Programed the sucker with a few tweeks. WOW! the BBC is flying better then any other Pantera I own. It gets on the "chip" and rocks. My Pantera One has a 401 installed and thank god I got a spare MultiGov "brain" for it. The cool thing is that you only need one LCD module for programing all the other ships that have the brain.
I wanted another one and noticed that they are out of stock. Gezzz wanted to replace all my 401's with one. My GV-1 is also suspect for replacement.
I have a white paper on setting up the MultiGov for the pantera. JB should have it ready soon for posting.

Very cool to hear! I'm looking to get myself a MultiGov when they get back in stock.

I'll have them end of May according to the vendor. As I understand the story he's making a new design and he's going to begin offering them directly to customers first ahead of supplying vendors like us. I asked him why and his response is it's so he can trouble shoot problems with customers. On the surface this seems reasonable and peronally I'm glad because until he does that I wouldn't feel comfortable offering them to "you".

My take on this is no matter how badly I want them to fill existing order, it's better for the impatient few to be his guinea pigs instead of my customers. From back during the wild west, the saying came about that "Leaders are the ones with arrows in their backs." Thus, you can a)wait for me to have them in stock, b) play guinea pig for him, or c) get something else.

Personally, if you don't have a governor, this is a good time to tweak the throttle/pitch curves so once you do install one (and there are many on the market), you have a decent set of failsafe curves to fall back on. If you already have something and just want to change (like BillM), a little delay is inconsequential. Ultimately, in my opinion, a few weeks delay while he uses his customers as beta testers isn't worth the grief because "my" time is worth something and I don't work for free . . . unless it's for Audacity Models

Well, I almost watch my new Pantera screw itself into the driveway!

I was just planning on breaking in the OS50 Hyper with a tank or two. I started it up sitting on the driveway, and while increasing the throttle a little, the MultiGov (which I've never use before) took the throttle up to the set rotor speed of 1750. This would have been Ok, BUT. this is when I realized the gyro was not functioning correctly. Hit throttle hold, nothing, all I could do was stand there and watch my new Pantera spin on the skids. Finally the throttle hold worked. SO I figured the gyro was reversed, so I switched it and tried again, NOT a smart move, as the same spinning Pantera. I figured I better quit while I was ahead and only need to replace the landing gear.
At least I found the gyro problem, the gain was set to zero.

Does anyone know if the MultiGov can be temporarily disabled without removing it?

Yes it can be disable by adjusting the rotor speed below 500 rpm

Thanks Helibuff!

I still cant believe I didn't properly check my gyro settings. Its a bad feeling watching a new heli spin on the ground with no control. The worst part was that it was drifting towards the culvert at the end of the driveway.

The cool thing with the MultiGov is that you can program stick location to disable, or the idle up switch.
I also have to chime in with dialing your ship in using "V" curves first. You will learn so much more about your flying without a Gov.
When your ready to rock. Then install the Gov. Like JB typed you should spend the down time to dial in your ship and your brain using the left stick and curves.
My 2 cents.

Throttle Curves

You should have throttle curves programed in anyways. If your governor pukes. then at least you would still have some control over the engine, not to mention the safety factor.

I have this on another thread, but thought I might ask here. I noticed on the bench that the Throttle Hold switch changes the MG to Speed 2.
I checked the Flight Mode switch and the MG changes to 1,2,3 respectively, but no matter which FM I'm in the TH switch changes the MG to SP2.
This might explain why when I hit my Throttle Hold, the engine kept spooling up and the heli kept spinning.
What would setting do I need to change to correct this?

DSW,

I have 5 MultiGovs and have not run into that problem when setting up on my 9Z WCII or 9C. Sorry, don't know enough about JR equipment but I'm sure it's only a minor issue.

Maybe give Bob Li a shout if you can't figure it out, or the replies here don't help. Good luck, it's a great governor.

Have to go check out what this new version is all about.

I found my problem, I did not understand that on the 9303 in the Gov. set-up screen, you must select the appropriate setting to tell the Mg what to do when you hit the TH switch, ie:.
TH set to +100% = MG Speed #1 setting
TH set to 0% or 5% (in my case) = MG Speed #2 setting
TH set to -100% = MG Speed #3 setting

So when I was hitting my TH switch, my Mg was going to Speed #2 (1850 RPM)
I now have the TH set to +100% = MG Speed #1 OFF). Bench tested great for no matter which Flt Mode I'm in.

Yup, you got it.
I wish JB would post my white paper (with his inputs) on the multigov setup.
It would of saved you some time.
Glad you got it.
Now go fly and enjoy!
