Heli vs Heli

Couple of years ago I almost had an confentation with another heli pilot. I had taken off with my raptor 50 started doing some circuits up high. Then I brought it down to do some low stuff. In the mean time this guy who could not do forward flight puts up a little electric job, I think it was a fixed pitch Dragon fly. He could see I down on the deck but it didn't matter to him he put it up any way. He almost caused me to crash, he did a vertical assent right in front of me. I was Pi$$ed. Being the person I am I just went up high and out of his way. No big deal, but he then proseded to fly directly in front of me. I wanted to take my raptor and eat that little heli alive!!!! Believe me I wanted to but it wasn't worth it. Nothing ever happened, the guy was and is just a plain idiot!! He's one of these guys that asks for advice on engine adjustment or whatever, then goes and does what he wants to do. The other heli guys at the field don't even want to talk to him because of this. I hate to be a downer but this guy will never learn as long as he has a hole in his A$$.

Damn that ground is hard!

its all about common respect. Every field should have a designated heli area for beginners to hover around. As when there are planks flying we should fly a pattern. If you wish to hotdog down low then state the fact so others flying know. And on the other end, planks should let us know if they are landing or coming for a low pass. Its not that hard to say "coming in" or " im down low" something of that nature. Like i said before ive flown at fields that were fun. Just a bunch of people enjoying the hobby. And ive flown at fields where some just dont get it, and after the fun fields were gone it got to the point that i didnt even want to fly anymore, and thats bad. I have plenty of other hobbies to keep me happy. But once again i got the bug to fly and now the search continues.

no match for carbon blades

I would have thought the same about my 74" gas powered Yak yet it was destroyed by a foamie.

As for nearly getting taken out by an airplane at that field, I know the feeling, I had a few close flybys myself when we were up there.

The only plankers that fuss about who gets the active and who gets the side runway at our field are the ones that don't know how to use a rudder.

At the field where I fly there are designated hover circles/tune areas. This guy is just clueless.

Curtisy (spelling?) and cooperation are the only things that are needed at a flying field.
No hot dogging needed...

I fly both....and can see both sides of the fence. It's better to fly separately.

As a Heli flyer, I don't want to fly the pattern or don't see a need to...

As a plank flyer, everybody needs to fly some variation of the going flight pattern to keep the potential mid-airs to a minimum..

Solution? Fly at separate fields or at different ends of the same field.

When I lived in the UK, it was very much separated. Us heli guys had our own field, all heli, and it was awesome not to get into any pissing matches with any of the plank guys.

We have it good in my neck of the woods. I fly planes and helis, and I have 4 fields (3 AMA, 1 Non-AMA)to fly at. At our local club that I am a member of, I often pylon race and fly the pattern with other planes (depending on who the pilot is). We actually have fun with the mix of planes and helis, nothing stupid, but we do on occasion fly together. This may be due to the fact that there are only 4 of us who fly helis, but in general, we all get along and share the same runway and take-off areas.

I understand the problems people talk about, and it just really boils down to the individual(s) a lot of the times.

our locall field

most of the heli pilots fly both planks and helis, heli flyers tend to fly helis when the planks are on the ground with the odd exception, most people know each other and there is almost a unspoken respect for each other.....if a heli flyer knows the plane pilot is very good he will fly at the same time but heli flyers know the dammage a heli can do and tend to stay down when there is a skyfull of planks..... had a little incident couple of weekends though twice with a newbie, first I called coming through with a low pass with a plank and he took off in front of me...... second time I had just put the heli into a hover and were about to get into some ff and he walked onto the runway..... no dramas just calmly explained to him to comunicate with others at the flightline and also NOT to walk in front of a heli.... He just didnt realise...... they way I look at it both are entitled to be there and both pay fees so we just have to share the air space

I feel bad for all the guys out there having problems at club fields. Why can't we all just get along. My club has no animosity from either side. Sure we're all ballbusters there, but we all get along whether its a fixed wing pilot or rotary flying machine pilot.
I do wait until nobody is in the air before I fire up my helis.
I do not like flying when other aircraft is flying. Probably 99% are circuit flyers and the other 1%{me} is a 3D lover. Although there are a few others exploring into the world of 3D at my club.

I was just wondering what would be the point of going to a flying field? I am admittedly somewhat new to heli's but personally I think competing for airspace and having the distractions of other people and models would be the worst possible conditions to be flying in. So I guess the question of the day is why do you guys do it in the first place? Why not just go to a farmers field and let er rip?

with 2 ears and 1 mouth you should listen twice as much as you talk
