Would it be possible to change the set screw from 1.5mm to 2mm? I used a BRAND NEW untouched set screw on the tail hub and put on a very MINIMAL amount of locktite and now I am unable to remove it. I've tried NUMEROUS allen keys but to no avail. I'm going to have to resort to the soldering iron trick (heat it up) once again but that may not work because the set screw is really rounded out at this point. If push comes to shove, I'll dremel it off but seriously, it would be nice if this had a 2mm set screw. I noticed the counter pinion in the main frame has a 2mm set screw now instead of 1.5mm in the past, please do the same for the hub. I hate spending hours trying to get out one little set screw.

you know I had this happened on the same setscrew,, I drilled out the center of the SetScrew, just the center,, then I could pull the hub off the shaft (that took a little twisting back and forth),, then I heated up the hub/setscrew and remove the setscrew, I tapped in a small tapered Reamer and twisted out the setscrew, , I guess you could use a small Easy-Out once you get the hub off the shaft.

if you have locktite between the hub and shaft you may need to heat the 2 to pull them apart,,

it took me a while, about 2 years and 5 or 6 crashes into the hobby to realize my Century helis will stay together without having to over-use the locktite on the setscrews...

I don't think you can use a larger setscrew because it wont seat in the recess on the shaft..

if you have a 2mm tap, just drill and re-tap for 2mm threads. or even 3mm if you really wanted.

Try heating the setscrew and then put some solder in it with a sacrificial allen key, that should fill the void between the setscrew and key.

a small Easy out is another good option. i dont use them often, but they are priceless tools when you need them.

What is an "Easy Out"? I've never heard of them. I'm thinking about drilling it and retapping to be honest. Probably be my best bet to solve the problem altogether.

I like Jester's idea too, I may try that just to see if it works

i would be careful with the solder though. its going to be really soft, so it might not take a lot to re-strip it. plus you need to watch that you dont solder the hub to the shaft...but that might not happen because i think steel pretty much repells solder.

an easy out is like a little drill but reversed. its edges bite into the socket of a stripped screw.

You need to get a really good set of Hardened Allen wrenches...like what the R/C cars come with...they do not strip out set screws nearly as easy. I have a set that has been used for 3 years now..and still look like new.. I have even broken motor mount bolts and muffler mounting bolts from over tightening them.

It's OK....It's not your fault !!!

same here. i have had mine for about 4 years now. another one of those "best investments ever" tools. all i ever used to do was strip bolts. but these things will break bolts before they strip. they ar ea bit pricy, but more then worth it in saved aggrivation and time.

I would love to get some hardened allen keys. I thought that ones I had were hardened, but I guess not. What do you suggest?

something like these

ricks has a wide selection of them

HERE

pretty much any hobby shop and online store will have them. i have the red Dynamite ones. you can also get replacment tips cheap if you ever snap one. but they are ground stainless steel, much stronger then the bolts, and the tips dont wear out.
