e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > Sticky Blade Grip Issues with new Swift 16 kit

Just started a build on a Swift 16 and have some sticking issues with one of the stock blade grips. I put it together correctly, took it apart several times and checked for loctite leaking into the bearings, etc... When I tighten the screw into the feathering shaft all the way, it binds and is sticky. When I switch the two blade grips from one side to the other, the one that is on one side of the feathering spindle is still sticky. Could this be an issue with the spindle itself? Anyone heard of this problem?

Where did you put the bearing shim?It should go between the thrust bearing and the radial bearing.also the thrust bearing races are 2 different sizes on the inside the small hole goes out .

The bearings are installed correctly, I took them apart twice and checked, also for loctite that had gotten out, etc... One of the grips is perfect, the other is a bit tight. I called Century and they said that a little tightness is normal and will shake out with spool up, but I am a bit unsure. They also said it might be a badly made rubber shim and to cut off any excess that sticks out from the head, which I haven't done yet. We'll see. Thanks for the reply.

I had sticky grips after switching to the CNC hub, and trimming the damper(s) is exactly what I did to fix it. I didn't have that problem with the plastic head though. As for their "it'll shake out" suggestion? Umm...... Tightness is NOT normal. The grips should rotate smooth as silk with the bolts snugged up.

The grips on the all metal head on my 620SE were tight for the first couple flights. Flies just fine, no trimming neccesary. Check out the vid here:

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

Maybe I'm expecting too much from my builds? I don't tolerate anything that doesn't rotate smoothly, and work on it until it does.

I was having the same trouble, Seems as if a batch of feathering shafts are defective from the factory. On mine, you can see were the teeth of the lathe crushed and distorted the turned down end of the shaft. I talked to Joe @ Heli-World and he sent me a replacement. Great service. I know of three different guys having the same problem.

Even if most of the time it will free up after some use, I wouldnt want to risk it.

all of my feathering shafts have looked perfect.Once you spool it up once the centrifigal force pulls everything into place and they are free as can be.I would rather they were tight and broke in to be perfect, then like some other makes that are loose out of the gate and only get looser, that's what causes vibrations.

Was the aluminum bottom plate longer than your carbon fiber one?

Yes . it is the same excact size as my 620 plate. only the 620 plate is carbon.and it is about 40mm longer then the old swift 16 carbon plate.

Wow I just had the same problem and posted what happened to me in another thread. One side of the threaded part of the spindle is not centered! It took me a long time to figure this out. If you look close there is probably a small ding where the transition is going to the smaller diameter. Spin the spindle in the blade grip and you can see how far off center it is. The vibration is awful and can not be flown like this without causing damage to the heli.
