e-BEAM Beam E4 > Beam E4 vs. TREX, HDX450, Bandit

I am thinking of adding a second 450 to my fleet. I currently have a tricked out MX450 and as some of you know they were just "discontinued." I really like the Beam, but would like to know what your experience is with the competetion before I make a desicion.

this will be interesting

I've got it narrowed down myself. The Bean is looking good. I like MA stuff alot, but who knows when we'll actually see the second batch ship. Plus has anybody seen a price and the Bandit??

I've owned MX400, Trex 450se, and Mini-Titan, and by far the Beam E4 blows the others away in looks, and performance.

I have flown a lot of little 325mm bladed heli's as well. T-rex 450 (all version), Mini Titan, MX 400, Thunder Power Extreme 450, plus built many, many custom built 325mm size heli's.

Most of them have been good up till now. The biggest problem I have with most is that they get or have a lot of slop in the head. Which makes them feel kind of like you are not as "locked in" when you fly.
I believe that the bar has been raised a bit in the 325mm blade class. There has been a lot of much better machined and built heli’s coming to the market, and BEAM is one of them.

What I really like about the BEAM is that it’s very tight in the head and tail. I am getting close to 70 flight on one of mine. It is almost as tight as the new one I just built last week. Both fly very nice. It also has much better phasing then the T-rex 450's do. Which makes it fly more precise.

The parts availability is much better with Advantage Hobby being the distributor. You can see they are looking for dealers, it is only a matter of time until part will be all over the country. If not, Advantage is a great place to purchase your items, there shipping is fast and I have yet to see any parts out of stock that I needed.

I hope that helps

LHS

I'm gonna go talk to the owner of the new LHS in town about being a Beam shop. His prices are very solid and he's new, so he may take the leap depending on what the initial order has to be. I know the other shop across the river will probably not be interested, plus they're a lot more expensive. I'm beginning to come to a conclusion, and it looks like a Beam for me very soon. The quality just looks outstanging. I'm a sucker for great machining work.

Not to mention the design is far beyond the Trex, the materials are better but the weight is about the same, and the price is comparable.

from what I've seen

it's actually almost 110 bucks cheaper!!! 349 with no electronics (which is how I'm gonna buy it) and then a 5% new guy discount and free shipping. COmes to what?? About 330 or so. V2 runs about 460 with no electronics. Getting pumped for a Beam.

I will do that, by the way what ESC would you guys reccomend using with a 8 turn Scorpion Motor and 2200ma 25c 11.1 volt Kong battery. What pinion gear are you using?

I have been testing a few ESC over the last couple of weeks, Align 35X, Jazz 40amp, Scorpion 55amp. All the test were with the 2221-8 on 13 tooth. I prefer the Align as of today.

The Jazz works pretty well but it always felt like the RPM's were down a little bit less then the Align. The Scorpion. 55 work OK, its big, hard to mount and runs hot. For the price its hard to beat the 35X ESC from Align. I am sure others will have their opinion so it will be interesting to see what others think.

Zaaaguy72,

Why don't you post this in the MA topics and see what they say or have you done that already? I'm waiting on the Bandit, but if it doesn't come soon, I will get a Beam.

From the pictures I've seen of the Bandit from MA's website, the Beam quality looks way better. The metal tail of the Bandit looks really dull and ugly.

Look at this Bandit tail:

That is a prototype picture of the bandit. I have seen the production parts for it and they are amazing. No more bead blasted parts all machined and anodized in a polished finish.

Thats good to know. I might have to get a Bandit 450 then if it looks good.

The new upcoming Razor 450 looks HOT also.

Zaaaguy72, I am running the same motor and battery as you with the 35amp scorpion esc and 14 tooth pinion. No heating issues great power and I put back 1300 mah after 4:30 flight.
