I was thinking about upgrading my motor from the stock to a z-20 , but I have heard that the Scorpion motors were very effecient and the price is good. Here's the one I am thinking of getting http://www.readyheli.com/Scorpion_B...k-3026-1210.htm ,or the 1000kv one. Is this a good upgrade, I'm still hovering and learning FF. I just want longer flight times and to be nice to my Kong Power 2200mah 25C batteries.

I'm flying the Z20-980. If you want to stay with the 2200's you might want to get the Z20 with a 14t pinion...maybe get a 13t while your at it.

We are all waiting to hear on the Scorpion motors but untill we see some real Eagletree data I have a feeling they won't be too gentle on 2200 packs.

The Scorpion your looking at I beleive is much more like a Z30....the 1210 would have a really high HS....the 1000 would be more in line with what is needed to keep HS to a workable limit.

I recently lowered my Normal mode to 17 -1800 rpms and yesterday flew 12 minutes on 3300 hextronic packs taking out 2600 mah. At 216 mah per min you could get 6-7 mins out of 2200 packs.

When I crank up the Hs to 2100 -2200 I drop down to 4 safe minutes with the 2200's.

I would either wait for some good data...or else go with the proven winner the Z20-980kv motor. It has plenty of power for FF and mild 3D. I would like more power but I think the 2200's would suffer.

i have 2500 and 3300 packs that may see a bigger motor in the future.

I just ordered the 1000kv to replace my RCP motor in my 8s A123 hurri. from the results I have heard so far is this motor is better then the Z20 980, slightly more power with same efficiency. and I know the z20 isn't as good as the RCP for performance so I'll let you know next week as long as the rain holds off!!

I now have several flights on my Scorpion 1000kv.
on 8s A123 it flies good @85% curve, it does not have the power that my RCP had, but I gain 1 minute of flight! over all it performs very well,not a 3d monster but motor and bats are just warm after 4 back to back 5 minute flights. on 6s Lipo @100% throttle it is lacking with my current gearing but it still flies nice, if I were to up the pinion it would do better, but then again my goal was to have a good 8S A123 setup. so I am running revco gearing and a 21t pinion (about the same as stock 13t) 20t owb. on 6s lipo it is unboggable but head speed is a bit low, so no doubt upping the pinion would help. 8s A123 I get 5 minute flights of hard flying with my RCP I got max 4.5 and that was landing as the batteries voltage dropped! 5.5 is doable. I will probalby try a 22t pinion when the weather gets better. So far I like this combo, but man this motor is Tiny! no problem fitting it in the Hurri! For $75 it is a heck of a motor

I have similar results as with Concept using the Scorpion 1000kv. In fact I had to drop down to 13th pinion from 14t as the headspeed was around 2400 with 8sA123. 13t gave me around 2250 rpm with 8sA123 and just over 2000 with 6s lipo at max throttle. I get about 5 min with 8sA123 and 7-8 min with 3300s packs. The only thing that really worries me about the Scorpion is the heat of the motor after flight and the batteries. The z20 kept itself cool as well as the lipo packs. If you only intend to fly FF and mild 3D the Z20 cant be beat. If you want no bogging the Scorpion can give you that but you need to consider larger packs. If you want more than 2400hs with 6s Lipo then look for the Z30-1100.
