i bought a my acrobat from somebody who had built it, never been flown. ive flown it last weekend for about 45mins came to fly it today and noticed the blade grip holders wiggle up and down. the feathering spindle isnt loose because they dont go in and out, only up and down a little. just going on holiday this afternoon and was wondering wether this is ok(is it wiggling on the rubber dampeners?)i never noticed what it was before i flew it last week. i can take it apart to see, but wont have time before i go and i will be wondering all week.
any ideas?

There is something wrong, I have an Acrobatic and the blade holders have always been very firm. I wouldn't fly in those conditions.

Assuming nothing is actually loose, then it may be your O ring dampers are worn or incorrectly shimmed. Both simple to fix of course but you may need to buy shims and O-rings.

I think you need to explain the up and down a little more.

as Ace asked, i think the up and down needs to be clarified a little more.

All blade grips float a little, how much depends on what O rings and dampners and shims, which reduce the amount of float.

With your machine it could be something simple as other posters have said, i would recommend you take the grips off look at the bearings,
also look and see if the thrust race has been assembled back to front( large washer on the wrong way) that would cause movement.

maybe if you could use your mobile phone to take a short video and then upload it onto here.

I did that with my Acrobatic and it helped people assertain what my problem was.

i havent been able to do a video yet but, ive taken the blade grips off and inspected all the washers and bearings everything seems to be as the instructions say.
the only movement that i can see is the rubber o ring in the head is moving up and down when the feathering spindle is tilted. its like its a loose fit in the recess. is that right? i thought that a washer may have been missing that compressed the o ring causeing it to squash out and fit tightly, but as i said all the bits are there. only flown circuits with it and its only had 45mins flight.

you could add another washer (spacer) to tighten it up. Also purchase new dampeners to insure these have not become deformed or deteriorated somowhat due to age.

Normally the grips should be relatively tight with little slop (assuming this is your up and down motion.

If the blades are tracking properly and you are not doing 3d then it should be okay for the time being.

you might want to consider changing the grips out for metal ones. Airstair grips work well

mine was the same when i had one if its up and down movement and the blades are in track it is normal. the vario head is very soft for at best sport flying with slow headspeeds of around 1500rpm.i put the hardest dampers in and shimmed the head right up and it did improve it a lot but was still soft compared to say a trex 600n hovering invered took a lot of input this was with high end servos.mine is now sold.

I like to support the earlier recommendation to change the O-Rings....or better buy an air star head with swivle the bearing modification. You will have a much better head (stable) and not risking a tail strike with the sloppy (the current ...) head.
