e-E-Flite Blade CP CX 400-3D > Franken CP Brushless converted Heli Max Axe cp Used Stuff from CP pro

Hey all I acquired this heli max from a friend for free because of the fact he hated it

I flew it a few times stock and it was not stable at all because of all of the previous crashes

The one thing that kind of caught my eye was the fact that the Axe Cp Was a lot beefer than the CP pro IMO The frame main shaft etc...

So I decided to strip my CP pro down took out the Park 370 in-runner brush less 4100kv and eflite 20 amp esc and also the eflite 3 and 1 control unit and My Blade CP pro also had the micro heli twin tail motor setup on it so I took that off to and a HH telebee gyro

Put Blade 400 skid supports on it to

I had to lengthen the tail motor wires since the Axe is a little bigger and to keep the CG right I cut off 3/4 of an inch of the tail boom to keep the same overall length

I had to install a new pinion gear on the motor because the Axe cp's main gear is a different mesh than the Cp pro's main gear I have installed a 10 tooth as that was all that was available but ordered a 13 tooth With the 10 tooth it flies about 8 to 9 min on a commonsense 1100 mah lipo and the motor esc and battery are not warm at all I wanted more head speed so hence the 13 tooth

I did not know if this would work out but it was well worth it

It is just as responsive as a Blade Cp but WAY WAY more stable I could never really nose end hover with the Blade but I did it first flight with this

LMK what you think Thanks Gary

Yeah about the dent If you own a Heli Max Axe cp make sure you keep the set screws on the fly bar collets tight So the fly bar and paddles do not rotate makes for a real fun time landing

Well I have been doing some more work to this heli I took off the twin tail motor and put the stock motor back on way more power I also bought a cheap GWS ics 50 2amp esc for the tail and set it up in separations and MAN DOES THIS THING HOLD I have 10 degree positive and 10 negative and the tail is Rock solid and I am just using a cheap Telebee HH gyro I will post some picks soon and a video to if the wind ever gets below 30 mph Thanks Gary

dravengary, I am running separates as well with a Telebee gyro. On the tail I'm using a GWS ecs 300 ESC , a GWS DD tail motor and a 3x2 push-on prop. Over 40 flights so far on the tail motor and no sign of weakening, it stays pretty cool for me. Here's a short video.

Dougs nice flying I am not doing much inverted flying yet but hopefully soon I did get to fly my Heli Max outside for one battery pack when the wind calmed down it was only 10 to 14 mph and I loved it it was so smooth and solid It is not twitchy at all This heli kind of started as a joke because a buddy of mine gave it to me because of his inability to fly it but after replacing the main motor and adding the two esc's and e-flite servos it is one of my favorite heli's to fly Thanks Gary

I also have a stock Heli Max that I picked up on here and after replacing all the messed up stuff on it from the previous owner it is real fun too I have a short video of it on you tube Just do a search under Axe CP and it is one of the newer videos listed it is under my screen name dravengary Thanks

dravengary, I noticed that you have the metal head on that axe. I was helping a friend of mine set his up, and he had the same head. I could not get it to work right, so I had to go back to the plastic head. Could you post a couple of pictures of that metal head so I could see of the assembly I had had was correct? I think there was not enough play in the one I had and it made cyclic control very slow and ineffective. Excellent video.

Yes I will post some pics of the head up close I will need to charge my cameras battery so I will post them within 30 or 40 min.

When I installed this head it was real bindy nothing was very smooth I noticed this after installing everything including the bell hiller upgrade. What I did to fix the binding was I bought a JR racing ball link resizing tool and resized all the ball link ends until they were buttery smooth Make sure when you install the ball links to the balls that you put the side with the little dot out they are made like most were they only go on one way You can force them on wrong and they will bind real bad(don't ask how I know this) After resizing you will notice a night and day improvement in how smooth the head works and reacts Just be careful not to take to much off of the ball link end or it could fall off and that would be Real Bad
Hope this helps...Thanks Gary

I have been having a vibration issue on this heli I have been trying to figure out. It would start vibrating just after lift off and the only time it half way smoothed out was at 3/4 to full throttle. I woke up this morning and was starring at it trying to figure it out when I had an idea I decided that maybe the pinion was to small I had a 10 tooth on it and I went ahead and put a 13 tooth on and the shakes are history I guess the 10 tooth did not allow it to get into the motors optimum running rpm range. So if you decide to build a heli like this use the HELI MAX 13 TOOTH AXE CP BRUSHLESS MOTOR PINION part number HMXE8020 It works perfect

Sounds like a slight blade tracking issue to me and the much higher head speed was able to force the blades into better track - A couple of my helis will vibe bad on spool up and smoothen out at high RPM if the blades are slightly out of track - It's sometimes hard to get the tracking just right so that the heli is smooth through the lower RPM ranges especially with stiff & slopless heads

When I tracked them with the 10 tooth pinion they seemed right on I even had my brother look at them while I was flying but what you say does make good sense Thanks Gary BTW took it down to the lake last night and did some real flying with it outside and it performed GREAT
