Anyone have any suggestions for upgrades to the stock swift that will make it more durable or more capable in the air. I plan on using it for scale/sport flying.

The upgrades that Century sells are purely for durability (CNC), the Swift flies fine right out of the box....Ron

The only thing i would recomend is skip the 4s setup and go for the 6s system.Better power better run times cooler esc and motor.

Thanks for the replies gents.

A 6s battery unfortunately is out of the question for me. I plan on getting the Air thunder 4s 5000mah batts. The 6s batteries are too expensive for me and the whole reason I opted for th swift instead of the TREX 600 is the 4s option. Some people use the crappier 6s batteries from companies like max amps and true rc but you really get what you pay for with batteries. I'd rather have a less capable helo with a good battery than a 6s battery that will not perform and possibly puff.

the thing to know is that upgrades is a misused word not to be confused with options.

since you're flying scale...you don't need upgrades because as stated she does great out of the box even with the woodies once properly balanced of course...as you seem to have some flying time under your belt already so if anything opt to upgrade to carbon blades.

this holds true for any properly matched system regardles of cell count.

she flies well and docile with 4s especially for your scale flying wants...if your happy with that stick with it.

also consider A123 batteries...search here or rcuniverse.com for how-to.

Here's another related question. Which parts break in a crash? Maybe this will say something about what to upgrade.

Also, which upgrades seem to make a positive difference in flight characteristics?

The only one that does is the triple bearing upgrade and that is if you fly hard 3D.

A crash kit usually fixes what breaks in a crash. I crashed my Swift a bunch and I never replaced the side frames (Version ones also). I usually broke blades, boom, mainshaft (until I upgraded to the solid steel one), feathering spindle (until I upgraded to the solid steel one), LG, and boom supports. After I went to all CNC upgrades, I hardly broke anything except blades and boom and LG.......Ron

Main grips always break in a crash.

There is no "rule of thumb" of what breaks in a crash as no two crashes are alike.

For centuryman...he seems to always break main grips...not an issue with me having two swifts; one stock and the other CNC.

For sure you will need to keep handy a crash kit PLUS tail blades and landing struts. If you upgrade the tail blades to CF...even better.

My crashes usually included the tail gear box until I "opted" to CNC.

for extreme hard 3d as its called these days i would also consider the main head.

The A 123's do work well in the swift.I have a 7s pack that i use for filler while I'm waiting for the lipos to charge. However in my phazor they suck. I think it has to do with amp draw. the swift is 2 pounds lighter and runs 530/550 blades verses 620's.On the swift with a 7s pack i get almost 4 minutes of medium 3D. on the phazor with a 10s pack i only get 2 min 40 secs.I have 2 buddys that run 12s a123's in the trex600's and they get 3 minutes .
