Radio - Futaba FASST > 12Z switch assignment?

Hello all..

I currently have a JR XP9303, which has been a decent radio. Yet, as I venture into scale helicopters here, I have found the switch assignment to be very frustrating. I am a gizmo & gadget guy by nature, and would like to assign XYZ switch to provide a specific action. Yet, with the 9303 I am stuck with specific settings, or using mixes - which I haven't really explored that much.

So, I am considering the 12Z.

In reading through various threads, I have the sense that the Futaba 12Z would allow me to assign any switch to any channel that I desire? Is this correct?

For example, the momentary switch: I can set this to channel # 11 and use it to set my auto-trims on the HeliCommand unit I am using? The JR 9303 will not allow me to use the momentary switch - and it kind of pisses me off.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi there.
Yes it can! -You can assign any switch to any channel or mix-function (idle-ups,etc).
The 12Z is a fantastic radio!

Silly you.........

JR "knows" the way all modelers want to set up their radio. Since they don't think you'll need to use that switch as you described, you're obviously mistaken and should find better way <VBG>. They haven't even completely resolved this issue with their 12X.

Or...........buy a 12FG which doesn't assume to dictate what is best for you.

Thanks for the replies.

Is it possible to do some sort of mixing with the radio to allow for something like so:

Sequence #1:
Flip switch A into position 1 (two position switch).
Flip momentary switch (training switch).
Aux Channel # XYZ is triggered.

Sequence #2:
Flip switch A into position 2 (two position switch).
Flip momentary switch (training switch).
Aux Channel # ABC is triggered.

As you can see here, I am curious if I can do some type of programming or mixing to use a main trigger switch to cause two different channels to operate, based on another switch variable. Ultiamtely, it would be nice to use the momentary switch for two different things - controlled by a second switch to specify the function.

Thanks,
Mike

Although I have the 14MZ and not the 12 I believe you can do what you explained as the main difference is the touch screen. You can change each switch function in different flight modes, so you could have your normal, idle up 1 and hold, then set Switch A to activate flight mode 3, which you name according to what action takes place, (landing lights) and so on.You have the ability to make a switch or mix work only when another switch or stick is in a certain position too, I.E. the retracts won't raise unless the throttle is above idle (stops ou trying to get them up accidentally when on the ground. There is just about nothing you CAN'T do with this radio. I like to experiment with mixes and functions.
You won't be sorry if you get one.

Just like Denis S said, I've got a 14, (my roommate has a 12 though) and since they're so similar, I'd assume the 12 can do priority. Basically you can assign which switch has priority over the other. I have found this crucial on flight modes for example.

One setup I setup throttle hold last, and initially, Idle1 had priority over all others...a quick beep or two and now Hold had the priority.

These are endlessly flexible radios. I like the fact that I can remap the trims to whatever switch/button/dial.

I was trying to do Elevon mixing one time on my 14 and couldn't figure it out so I programmed it as a V-tail, and just put the "rudder" on the aileron stick. Worked like a charm.
