e-JR Voyager E > Brushless for the VoyagerE

I'm looking to outfit my JR VoyagerE with a brushless motor/esc/LiPO setup.

My thoughts were a Hacker C40-8L motor with a Hacker Master 40-3P Heli Opto Controller and a Thunder Power 3s3p 6000mah LiPO pack. Does this seem like a logical setup? What size pinion would be recommended for this setup?

PS: If anyone has any of these items they want to sell/trade PM me or post here.

Thanks guys.

I've been flying my VE for quite a few years with a Hacker C40-8l and 3S-3P Tpower pack. The only difference for me is the old Castle 45 amp Speed control. By the way, I use a 17 tooth pinion with this set-up. I assume you have the old VE with 2 stage gearing. I don't think this motor will work with the super VE. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here. I should also mention that my VE is stretched and uses the Quick of Japan all metal head (very nice unit). This head is what cured all my tracking problems. It's solid as a rock. It certainly is strange how all these years the VE size was the ugly duckling, and now all these other companies are scrambling to produce a heli very near this size. Life is grand.

My Voyager E is a few years old now, however I have never actually finished getting all the parts to get it flying. I have the radio setup with servos and gyro, I am just lacking the items mentioned above. Which, from the sounds of it, should do just fine for this Heli.

I'm not sure what "2 stage gearing" is but I can assure you that the Heli is about 4 years old now.

Anyone have any recommendations for a place to get a good price on the items listed above? New or used should suffice.

Thanks.

dwoel,

You are so right about the size. I thought this was the perfect size e-powered heli when I bought one back in 2001 and was quite surprised that no other manufacturers were making them in this size. Then this past year it was clear that we were not the only ones thinking this...

Problem with all the players stepping up in this class means that we may never get the Vibe 500(Super VE 4S)here officially in the US. I do hope we get it. Although, like you, I have the quick head and most of the aftermarket parts for my VE so it's already nearly super.

I have always dealt with, and had good service from fxaeromodel. I see that they have the hacker c-40-8l for $ 189.00 and also have the Hacker ESCs the link is http://www.fxaeromodels.com/. I bought my batteries fron TP packs and I believe they were $ 209 at the time. Don't know what they are now. The 17 tooth pinion can be picked up from an RC car shop. I believe the traxxas brand has the correct pitch. You must have the 2 stage gear if your VE is a couple years old. 2 stage has an extrra gear between the pinion and the main gear on the main shaft. Does that make sense? It was just another way to arrive at the ratio tht they wanted without a huge main gear. You'll love the VE if your just into hover and forward flight. Watch for slop in your head. Especially in the ball links. Be sure to track the blades well, and have you heard of the VE wobble. We can discuss that as you progress.

Thanks for the info guys.

Another question,

Would the 3S3P 6000mah be the best battery to use with this motor setup or would there be a different configuration that would be a higher recommendation?

Thanks again.

Dwoel,

I thought that too about fxaeromodels until you have a problem with what you purchased from them. They do a disappearing act. Won't buy from them again. Also had an issue with there online security-when I placed an order someone swiped my credit information. What ticked me off is that they knew they had been compromised and continued to take online orders and make transactions.

Scalecrazy... Sorry to hear thatyou had those problems. I should say that I haven't had a need to buy from them for some time now, so I'm glad for the heads up.

Spr0ck3t...I have heard several guys saying that they fly their VE with a 3S-2P pack. They say the lighter weight makes a difference. I guess as long as you get the MAH's up there your OK. My 3S-3P pack is 6000 MAH, and seems to go forever. I usually split a charge into 2 flights.

Two flights on 1 charge will be nice. I'm sure since I am a beginner I will get at LEAST that.
