Hi Ladies and gentlemen,
five or more years ago I tried, I say, I tried to fly a shuttle z. I chickened out, scared me somewhat. I put it away and of course after moving several times stuff just got messed up and scattered.
Well I've got the bug again. I'm 62 and doing fine, and I'm going to fly a model helicopter before I croak so help me god.
I'm in the stage of checking out what I have and getting it in order.

One question I have, that I know someone on this fine board can tell me.
Can you stuff a gas engine in a shuttle zx or zxx. I was considering
a gas excell but knowing there will be accidents I figured that a shuttle would get me up and be somewhat easier on the pocket book.
I need gas as I am at least 100 miles from hobby shops and that hurts, but I'll live with it. I live way, way out in the country.

What a Great board this is..
Thanks folks.

Question?

I have never heard of a gas engine small enough to fit a Shuttle-but there are a lot of things I haven't heard of!

How often do you get into the hobby shop? You might buy 4 or 5 gallons of glow fuel at a time, and fly that... Where are you located? Invest in some sort of simulator, and you shouldn't have too much trouble. You can also mail order fuel.

Thanks, John Cadwell

Welcome! I say you're never too old to fly helis.

Gas engines are too big to fit in the Shuttle. Why don't you order glow fuel that will be delivered to your place? Get it in bulk or do so next time you're at the hobby shop.

You don't even need that much glow fuel. When I was learning to fly on my ZXX, a 5L (1.32 gallon) bottle would last for a month! It flies forever, usually got 25mins to the tank. Oh, using CP5%. Now with CP30% & FFF a tank only lasts 12mins!

Yeah, a gasser has a higher pucker factor, but is more heavy, stable & easier to learn on than the Shuttle.

If you have a good computer, a sim will save you a lot of money and removes much of nervousness when you do try the real heli. Its not the only way to learn, but if your far from other pilots then it probably the best. I'll guarantee it will save you more than the cost of the sim and heli combined and then some. If you stick with it and take the sim seriously, you will progress at a much faster rate than those who try to learn on their own without a sim. I'd bet money on it, and I only bet on a sure thing. I had RFD and now G2 and they must of saved me thousands by now.

Hi!

There are a great group of guys here in the LR area. Fuel can be had at one LHS for a decent price and can be bought by the case. Email me and perhaps you can come down one Sat afternoon. We mostly fly in Maumelle.
