no you don't have to do the linking again, changing the model memory only changes the settings of the heli, but will not change the settings with the modules. how it works is the 2.4 module syncs to the Rx and they share a special code only with one another, so as long as you use the same TX module with the same RX you will be fine. However its still wise to check and make sure you are all in the green when making any changes with your radio, its just a good idea.

Guys, if anybody is looking for an affordable 2.4 8 channel combo, I have one for sale, it's brand new from XPS...

http://www.xtremepowersystems.net/p...prod=XPS-CPF1-8

I do not recommend it for the 9Z though, but it works perfectly with the 9C...

Thank you!

don't quote me on this, but i believe so. all the module is doing is allowing your TX to send out 8 channels to the RX, but if the RX only has 6 or 7 then you obviously can only assign things to those corresponding channels. Like in a PCM TX and RX i run a Futaba 9CHP which can trasmit in both FM and PCM. when i use a four channel RX it still works the same as when i use my 8 channel RX's. the TX doesn't care how many channels you have on your RX just as long as it can talk to the RX properly. i don't see any reason why it would not work. However make sure you get the right 6 or 7 Channel RX that corresponds to your 8 Channel module for your TX. hope this helps.

FASST has two different transmission protocols. One for 7 channel and less, the other for 8 channel and above. To use the 607, 617 and the 6 whatever mini receiver you need to switch to '7'. To use the 8 ch and 14 ch Rx, you need to switch to '8' or multichannel mode.

The only reason not to convert the 9C to 2.4 is because it's about the slowest radio out there.

Setup is everything, All my heli's can fly better than I can pilot them

I am also in the 9C to 2.4 dilemma. My take however is that the Spektrum receivers are way cheaper than the Fasst ones- by about 50-60%!
So I am considering getting the Spektrum module for my 9C, and matching receivers for all my fleet, so as to never worry about pin flags, or getting shot because of random interference events. This is way cheaper than doing the same with Fasst. It also makes my 9C more attractive to a potential buyer(if and when I choose to upgrade to a new Tx), because of the 2.4 robustness. Just adding to the confusion...

Good flight, good night!

well i am not sure what everyone means about the 9C being "SLOW" and all. i have been flying my 9CHP for about a year now and i love it, nothing seems "slow" to me.

Go Here
http://runryder.com/helicopter/gall..._pcm14_avg.gif.

The other problem is that it gets even slower when using a 2.4 module.
I would do a search on this as many people stay away from the 9C for this reason.

in all honestly, would the average pilot notice the "slowness" of a 9c with a 2.4 mod?

yeah i agree with west-wot, the average user will not notice the slowdown with the 2.4 upgrade. i haven't noticed anything and i am an intermediate sport/3d flyer and i love my 9C.

This does depend on a great extent how good your servos are.
I have heard and read [do a search]that people only knew the difference how slow the 9C is only by changing to a different radio that is faster. Everything is relative. Slow servos ,,you won't notice much with either radio system. Throw Great servos at the 9c and you will be wasting your money. With top of the line servos you will notice alot on a faster radio. The 9C is slower than DX 6 ,the first Spectrum radio, and now is not now being produced. The new DX6I is a good bit faster than the 9C and is 170 bucks. I have seen the 9C and it is a very nice radio. My only point is to consider what else is out there and where it now ranks in performance. It is an old design.
I am not a 9C or Futaba basher,, I have owned many Futaba radios over the years. I thought I would pass on info I read and heard when I was in the market for a new 2.4 radio.
