Scale Model RC Helicopters > My EC135 Build

Guys,

I have just updated my gallery with the pictures of my EC135 turbine progress so far, so please have a look. It is getting close and the biggest remaining job is that we are making the rear doors work properly i.e. to have proper runners to lift the door out and slide it back.
I should at this stage give a huge credit to my friend, Tris, who has done the largest part of the work on my machine and spent many a night locked in his garage, but he knows how grateful I am!
We are hoping to have it ready for a test flight in the near future so I will update the progress on that when we are closer. Hope you like the pics and all comments are welcome.
Here's a sample picture

Very good job!
I'm looking forward to see the finished machine. Which colors are you going to use for painting the fuselage?

Thanks

I have seen one other person do scale doors so we have a starting point. I'll try to post a vid of that shortly.

Hello Paul,

Here's the video that Darren was referring to that i am trying to replicate.

http://y.berlon.free.fr/ec135/ouver...oulissantes.wmv

Ive so far started on the middle rail figuring the best approach is to take it in small portions !!!

Cheers

The baumann sliding door system is for the EC145 as the lower door track is different from the EC135, but the kit is one option avail. to have sliding doors.

Yes - the sliding door option adds alot to the model, but will require some trial and error if doing from scratch. I'm at hold on my first door as I haven't found the correct resources to fab the lower rail.

There are a number of methods to make the slider the rides the rails. Yes - these doors will take many hours to perfect, but the reward is nice.

It sure would be nice to get a group of guys building the same model together for some hands on detailing.

I know Tris has made a start as he sent me a picture of the brass square tubing whch he has milled a slot in, this will be used as the centre runner. I should probably explain, my machine is a joint project between Tris and myself. I have funded it fully and put some of the time in to it, but he has put in a greater part of the time building as he is more experienced than myself. I would guess by the time it is finished, Tris will have done 70% of the time on this machine.
This collaberation goes back to an old agreement. I once said that as soon as I could afford it, I would buy a pre-built turbine.....as I didnt want all the building work. Tris said that he wanted to build one and would do it for free if I funded the project!!!!
As soon as I was in a position to do the build with no financial restrictions I checked to see if Tris was still of the same mind and as you can see, he was!!!!
I have treated him to something he wanted by a way of a "thank you", but his efforts have been given freely and he will be the only other person I let fly this machine.....EVER!!!!!!

Can you keep me posted on the development of your version of the lower track? I only wish I had a partner (friend) that was interested and local to my area to build with. Kids aren't ready yet.

Hello Sean,

I think you have got excatly the opposite problem that i have - My other half always gives disapproving looks when the next package arrives for the EC135 or when darren turns up at the door!!!.

I must admit that after some playing about, i think the lower runner will be easy(ish) to achieve - Its all about making something that will run smooth and yet is able to cope with the everyday ware and tare.

Current plan is to use some Ali sheet, bent and folded with a cut at one end to allow the track to recess into the fuz. Ive been playing about with some rollers made out of casting epoxy running in 12ba bolts which will then reach below this track and back again, allowing the runners to run on the inside of the Ali. As soon as the door closes, it follows the track into the fuz closing the dooe.

Early days though.. Will post some pic's if i get it working. Unfortunately in the middle of a load of cisco exams at the moment so its taken a back set until next week.

Cheers
Tris

i have to say it has been really refreshing to read a thread that is informative, and gives a step by step build on a great project.

I am only just stepping into scale and learning to fly scale, and it is threads like this where you see the effort and the sheer enthusiasm for a scale model is shown.

Great effort and please keep adding to this thread, i did once own an EC135 and had some teething probs with it, i gave up rather than try and work around the problem.

It is nice to see another in the background, it would be great if it is up and flying for the vario fly in on August, my goal this year is to become comfortable on my scale machine ( 1/4 Vario Jetranger)

so it seems as if there will be a some new faces this year at the event..

Matt,

We are trying very hard to get this complete for the Bicester fly-in, but we will both be there (even if the machine is not!!!) and will look you up.
We have a few minor jobs left, but the doors are a big one and that is in Tris' hands (no pressure intended). Once we get these last things done we then need to prime it, then I will do all the riveting work using a Starwood models riveting kit. I intend to burn the midnight oil so I can get it back to the painter for the final finish. Time is tight for a Bicester launch, but we will do our best.
Thanks for the kind words!

cheers
Darren

Hi Darren

As my usual painter Aeroart has now packed in, who do you plan on using to paint it? I plan no more heli's in the immediate future once my turbine Lama is finished, but it would be good to know someone.
