e-Century Hummingbird - Swift > Opinions on my Swift 16 Setup

Looking for some tips on my intended setup as I'll be purchasing these items this week. Any recommendations or advice is welcome.

Swift 16 kit combo
-includes 600A plus motor, 80/100A ESC, 10 tooth pinion, electron BEC

3 Futaba 3151 digital servos

GY401 gyro with 9254 servo

Heli-max 530mm blades (maybe the 550's)

Futaba 7ch 2.4 receiver

Air Thunder 4s 5000mah 14.8V battery

I'm looking for only a basic sport type setup with decent flight times of 7-10 minutes. It will eventually be going into a century A109 fuselage.

If I use the BEC do I need a RX battery still?

Opinions on these blades with this power system?

Thanks, Rob

The big blades will over work the battery. Look at 515's or 520's. I have a similar set-up, and fly 4S. Get the 11 tooth pinion. The stock blades work fine, by the way. You do not need a receiver battery with a BEC.

I run those blades on my swift with the same motor. However I'm running 6s with a 9 tooth pinion and a castle esc 80amp.On 4s those blades will be fine . on my setup I found a set of 550 widechord maverick g5s to be awesome.I also have the futaba 7c radio in 7 of my helis and no complaints, make sure you get the 617 receiver if you get anymore .the 607 wasn't desighned for eccpm and you could see some weird swash action because of the channel code clusters ar'nt next to each other.I would use a 6s setup. the motor and esc will run cooler and be more effecient.I started with 4s thats how i know. higher voltage eqauls less amp draw and excess amperage is what lets the magic smoke out of electronics.I run a seperate bec.your bec hooks to your main battery and it's purpose is to eliminate the use of a receiver battery. But if you whant max flight time a receiver battery may give you another 10 to 20 seconds of flight time but more weight and another battery to keep charged.

I will have to agree with Greybird, 550mm blades on a 4s setup will stress the batteries, motor, and ESC. If you want longer flight times and a cooler running system, go with the 515mm or 520mm blades. Also is the Electron piece an ESC or a BEC?

the electron is a bec that century makes.
Those 530 helimax blades run about the same as the stk woody's,I have had good luck with the stk blades, but on 6s they just wer'nt loading the motor.I actully use the stk swift blades on my hawk pro with the speedup gear they work good on it to.and they're cheap.

Thanks for the opinions

Unfortunately going to a 6s battery is a bit out of the question for me. The whole reason I'm opting for the swift over a trex 600 is the cheaper batteries, ie: 4s to 6s. I'll probrobly stick with the 530 blades for now and see how that works on the system. I'm not looking for any stick banging performance from this bird, just a good sport/scale setup with a 1500 headspeed.

On 4S, the 530's are still too much. Look at 515's.

That's what I run on my Swift (Kontronik Tango 45-10, RotorTech 515). Works great and I get about 8 minute flights.

Possibly 5s battery

Just spitballing here but how about 550mm blades on a 5s 4000mah setup geared with a 9 tooth pinion? Is that doable?

I'm looking at the prices for True RC battery packs and they are very reasonable and have a 3 year warranty on them. I have yet to do serious researching into these packs but how about some initial opinions.

I've been very happy with mine. In fact I'll be ordering another one soon as I'll also be using this pack on my soon to be completed 1/5 scale J-3 Cub. The pack on my Swift does a good job and barely gets warm.

Air Thunder 5s 5000mah

So how about a 5s 5000mah battery swinging 550mm blades? Would that overheat the system?

I own 2 of their 4000mah 6S1P packs and love them. One has now survived a fairly violent wreck with no issues. I plan on buying another 2 this year to give me 4 packs. Unless I make the switch to A123's that is.

Got my kit! Blades are bigger

My kit came in today and I was just wondering what size blades everyone else was getting. Mine has 21.3 inch blades which equates to 543 mm. I thought they were coming with the 520's?

Are you measureing from the center of the bladebolt hole? Just measured mine and they are 520 to the hole and 541 end to end. Most manufactures measure to the hole not the end.

Ijust came in from 9 flights on my swifts today. They are sweet heli's. You're gonna love yours. I've been experimenting with 8s in a swift 16.All i can say is IT ROCKS!!!!
Of all my heli's my first swift 16 in 6s gets more airtime then any of my other heli's. Charge ,fly, repeat ,thats all i ever have to do to it.
You just gotta love heli that doesn't have any annoying maintence issues and is always ready for another flight.
And it's a good performer to boot.

Pitch and throttle curves

Heres the final setup:
Century 600A plus motor with the 80/100 ESC
Stock 520 woodies
Air thunder 4s 5000mah battery
10 tooth pinion(looking for low headspeeds)
Everything else stock

I'd like to keep the pitch curve at -3 to +9

What should my throttle curve look like?

flat at 80 to 85% in govener mode.with that heavy battery and small blades you may need to bump your headspeed,my first swift i started with 12s nimph batteries at 1600 headspeed.weight would be close to your setup.anyways it bareley had enough power to fly muchless anything else.my calculations give you a headspeed of 1400 to 1450.to fly desent you'll need 1700 to 1800. a 12 tooth pinion should get you there or you could run some 550 blades on that 10 tooth.and it might work ok.butwith that low of voltage your amp draw is going to be considerable and 550's will make it worse.
