Great!

Thank You Angelos, great follow-up. A few of us are waiting for the change to get our hands on your product, but by the time I get an e-mail telling me that it is available the HS runs out of them.

Thanks and good luck

64 bit

With the existing USB cables you can load the 32bit driver in compatibility mode and the software runs fine.

BT adapter

Can't wait til this comes out. This will make field programming so much easier. Now I can just use my WM Treo to tweak the gyro instead of lugging the laptop to the field.

It would be handy to have the the spartan connect with a programming unit without having to plug anything into the gyro itself.

Is there a list of supported PDAs/mobile phones yet? Will the bluetooth module cost the same as the usb cable?

The version we will be releasing soon is for ARM based PDAs running Windows Mobile or CE. It intended to run on all such systems but due to the great diversity between PDAs we can't guarantee that things will be smooth with every PDA on the market. The best thing it to download the software and check if it runs smooth before buying a Blue-Link.

The software needs some more tweaks in order to run on Windows Mobile phone that don't have a touch screen and thus an updated version will be released later to cover these. Symbian version will also follow later.

> Will the bluetooth module cost the same as the usb cable?

Unfortunately the price of Class 1 Bluetooth radios isn't cheap at the low volumes we use and this will be reflected in the price of the Blue-Link. I won't know the exact RRP until the first batch is finished but you should be looking at over 3 times the price of the USB cable.

That means the BlueTooth will be over $100. That is crazy. No one is going to pay that price. That is nuts. I thought about selling my USB cable and getting one but at that price...

I agree cheaper would have been better and certainly the price won't be for everyone's pocket. But that's the best we can do given the price of the electronic components. I have lost count how many days I spent trying to find the best price for the Bluetooth radios. The Spartan Blue-Link will be significantly cheaper than than the Mikado mentioned above.

Let's see, all together most of my helis are all in the $2K-3K range. I don't see $100 as exorbitant for the Blue-Link. The bigger issue is that it is limited to Windows Mobile or CE.

One might consider the projected sales of the soon to be released I-phone 3G. In this regard I think Spartan failed. Not everyone is on the Microsoft teat. A recent survey of US college students shows that most are Apple/Mac/Linux fans when it comes to laptops. Microsoft is generally seen as the evil empire!

I find it hard to believe that Spartan can't release multiple format sofware. Do they need someone to write the code?

rexxigpilot,
I am well aware that there is computing choices besides Microsoft. I am also well aware that there are phone choices besides iPhone. In fact I have not yet seen an iPhone in real life and I don't really desire one. None of my friends has an iPhone and they don't seem to desire one either. Maybe a sign of getting old?

The bottom line is that we can never support everyone's favorite phone, Windows Mobile, Symbian, Palm, Blackberry, iPhone, J2ME, you name it. I would like to offer a choice to people who don't have laptops or don't want to carry them at the flying field. Windows Mobile and Symbian run on several different types of phones and PDAs and therefor the best two candidates.

No, platform portable Java code would be the best choice . . . they you really don't care what OS is under it . . . bloated, yes, but a) What software isn't these days? and b) Worth it for the portability.

Who wants to support multiple platforms anyway? The real world uses Java!
