e-Hirobo SRB Quark - Lepton - XRB Coaxial > Motor for lepton that works with 4S and 5S

Hello,

I'm starting to think that my Kora 15-12 is flakey. Can you guys recommend a motor that will work with 4S for now and will work with 5S in the future.

Thanks,

Balbs

Well me I'm just waiting 'til I wear out my 3700mah 4S packs on my 2826/8 with 17T pinion...... After that I'm gonna switch to 5S 2500mah on the same motor with either 13 or 14 teeth pinion..... I'm expecting, the 60grams weight savings, and the lesser current draw on higher cell count ("that's if properly geared" ), will give the same flight time I'm getting right now on my 4S set up, which is 4-5 min hard 3D, with 2850rpm on the head in gov mode..... My current AUW is 1613grams...... You would want the Jeti Spin ESC though so the setting will be right on spec...... Or if you have Jazz, manually set it to AXi's factory recomended settings to get best performance...... This motor rocks on 4S..... I'm just to see how it does on 5S come time to switch over.......

I flew my Kora 15-12/21T pinion again last weekend and I hate it !
It can't even pull 9 degrees of pitch...
There is no power in this motor on 4s as far as I'm concerned.

I'm looking for a better choice.

AXI 2826/8? How's the motor temp after 5 min?

I don't doubt the power of the Kora on 5s but I don't want to go to 5s at this point (too much invested on 4s).

Some more questions for Tail_boomstrike about the AXI 2826/8 on 4s :

Does the 17t pinion create problems with the main gear ? Bigger pinions (i.e. more teeth) always mesh better with the main gear and the fewer the pinion teeth the more "rough" the mesh will be. Isn't this a concern ?

When you say "rocks on 4s" what exactly do you mean ? How much pitch does it pull ? What rpm ? What amp draw ? What temperatures at the end of the flight ?

Thanks in advance for any info !

oops one more thing I meant to ask :

What exactly do you mean by that ? As far as I know the Jazz is fully "automatic" i.e. it adjusts itself to the motor.

Thanks again

Will this pinion work on the AXI 2826?

You have to modify the magnesium frame for that pinion to reach the main gear.

balbs,

My timer is set to 4min only..... I start my timer after the head is fully spooled up, which takes 7-12sec..... At 4min alarm, I either land or play a little bit more....... When I do, I sometimes hit 5min mark...... Temp readings are variable, depending on how hard I worked the heli and the weather condition...... There are days when I get higher reading when weather is colder, and days that are warmer yet lower temp reading....... Anyways, the highest reading so far was about 149°F...... Not really a concern since the manual says the highest temp before the magnets degrade is over 250°, if I remember it right...... So it's a hotter motor than Kora........ But one of our guys in this forum, tried this motor and attested it bogs less than Kora and started having fun with his Lepton, not fearing tail blow outs......

demosa,

I did stripped the main gear with 425mm blades running 11° pitch which I now believed is not required on a Lepton to have a good pop........ 11° is just plain greedy and don't serve a thing...... My pitch is now dialed down to 9° with MAH and 10° with Align blades....... and the main gear is holding still..... I'm about to move down to 16T pinion to fine tune the governor mode.......

There's a couple of required setting for this motor...... 8Khz frequency, 24° timing advance, number of pole ect....... I never own a Jazz, but Jazz being high end, high dollar, and as most claims it to have numeruous adjustable setting, I assume it really has a lot of settings configurable....... Automatics doesn't always produce the best performance although sometimes longer flight time but less power........

I think of it as "Rock Concerts 'R' Fun"...... So Lepton with 2826/8 4S is fun ("Rocks" ) .......

balbs,

I got your pm...... Yes, motor mount need some modding...... I have mini file set...... I used the round ones, and the flat ones..... I don't advice Dremel...... Might get overdone...... The center frame is pricey....... Plus, magnesium, when it catch fire it's unextinguishable....... You will also need two button head mounting bolt if you go lower than 17T pinion.......

I'm using Jeti Spin 75 Opto....... But before that CC45...... The settings are:

Motor power start = medium
PWM = 13khz, but AXi requires 8khz, so the lowest on CC80 is 11khz (8khz on my Jeti eliminated the high pitch whine)
Throtle Response = high
Current Limiting = disabled
Motor Timing = high
Gov Gain = 92
Spool-Up Speed = high

This is in governor mode, with voltage cut-off at 2.7 per cell.....

Where did you get your pinion from?

What about the 2826/10...It's spec'ed for 3S-5S? At least with this motor I wouldn't have to mod the frame since I would be using larger pinions...The 2826/8 is spec'ed for 2S-3S??

I'm using Align pinions...... I don't know about that motor...... But if you look at that site again on the 2826/8, it shows 4S-5S for helicopter..... I have ran this motor on 6S before on QJ8 helicopter...... It's your choice which one you will use..... If you give that one a try, please, let us know how it worked out......
