| Copies vs originalsI did not state it was not a good thing to have parts from any source...nor did I suggest anyone should buy or not purchase anything from any one...rather, an accurate support of the very good advice Steve gave you, as one who is very experienced with the machine. I had over 2600 flights on the two, incident free, and never even broke a single rotor blade. Both kits were given to me by Franz Kavan himself, and were among the very first ones released in the states.
I agree that parts for any vintage model are certainly a positive.
What is accurate, and I stand by it, is that there is only one original jet ranger...the new heli baby reproduction is a good thing also..but it is a copy. That does not abrogate the pluses of parts availability, etc. Even updated, the jet ranger cannot hope to compete as a complete machine in any meaningful numbers in today's marketplace, as it is a severely dated and obsolete and heavy design. It faded to antique status for these reasons.
Nonetheless, I love the original with a deep and abiding respect for the work of it's designers, and have a deep sentimental attachment to my third heli purchased. It was years ahead of the competition at the time of it's introduction, with correct swash plate geometry, a modern tail rotor box, and was the first machine with bell mixing, not to mention nuberous other firsts.
Another plus of all the old fuse machines, is ther resonant frequency is different and louder than frame fuse combos, and they sound bitching, in a more ominous and exciting fashion, when flown hard at full throttle...some would suggest scary.
I am not happy unless little children run away crying.

Caveat emptor.
