HIROBO X-spec - Freya - Sceadu - Shuttle > EVO 90 - Kasama Head

Guys,

Kasama would introduce a rotor head for EVO90. The rotor head is CNCed from 7075 Aluminum, floating spindle design w/dampener similar to infinivation. Some features as I learn along are
- Main blade pitch range of +/-14 degree
- cyclic pitch +/-8
- flybar ratio is adjustable from 100-50%.... nice
- zero slack between main blade grip to spindle
- Solid clamp btwn/ main hub to the shaft

For people who cracked the plastic yoke, wearing out the spindle through hole yoke, and annoying bladegrip-spindle slack, these would be the best upgrade that the machine can get. Not only the weak points on the rotor head are eliminated, but also you are getting better flight response with the upgrade.

It'll be interesting to check out 'crack' moves w/ Kasama head. I'll report back after intensive amount of flying...

haga,

Having choices would never hurt. The head will be available in the next week time frame and the price is right.

Guys,

The Kasama head is installed in the EVO90. The head has +/-14 deg and 8.5 degree on the cyclic. Currently the whole ship is setup w/ 3x KO2123, Radix710, v-paddle, Lipo 3400mAH, Logictech gyro. As work schedule permits, I'll sneak out and have a full test.

The head is pretty solid, zero slack on all assembly. So Far at the end of positive and negative pitch with cyclic is without any binding.

Darkafa, it's made in Thailand and GrandRC bringing the product to States

Looks a lot like another X-Cell rotor head.

Have you measured and confirmed that head will yield a 100% flybar ratio? What is the pitch range, both collective and cyclic, at that 100% flybar ratio?

Dr Ben,

I have the head setup at ~50% flybar ratio. With this flybar ratio, I'm squeezing out +/-14 deg and 8.5 mechanically.

The bell-Hiller mixer arm has option hole further out, couple with flybar carrier out-most option mounting hole, I'm sure it will get to 100% flybar ratio, take a note though, main blade pitch and cyclic would probably suffer, but as long as the elevator 'pitch' window is open tall enough, pitch range can be compensated back.

How much pitch & cyclic are you looking for with 100% flybar ratio?

Sweet! So you have the prototype SRIMOK head? Did you get a chance to fly the new Kasama head yet? Can't wait to hear your feedback on the new head.

I'm currently flying my FX head with the Avant mods to change the stock .7 flybar ratio to .5-.6 ratio like the Vibe's and Synergy's. Boy is it quick. I just started learning how to do crack maneuvers and boy are they fun

Dr.Ben
When you say 100% ratio do you mean a 1:1 ratio? If so why would you want a 1:1 ratio like the raptors? I thought a lower flybar ratio speed things up

Because he made the claim in the original description of the head. To date, I've not a seen a pitch arm mounted bell mixer head that could yield a 1:1 mix ratio with a minimally sufficient amount of collective and cyclic range (IE 20 degrees of collective and 6 degrees of cyclic). If a sufficient amount of collective and cyclic does not remain at 1:1, the ability to yield a 1:1 flybar ratio is moot. If this head succeeds at that task, then it's quite unique.

Also, remember that some guys are interested in precision aerobatics and/or hovering or AP work. In those areas, the ability to generate a higher flybar ratio for stability in the wind is quite important.

Dr. Ben,

I'm concentrating in freestyle setup first. As the test for lower flybar ratio done, I'll try out higher flybar setup for fullfiling your request.

Tony, I have a chance to get out during the lunch time for hovering around on an empty parking lot. On the limited space, I was testing engine, governor, pitch pumping on spot, and everything seems well. Full flight test envelope will be trialed out this comin weekend. Please stay tune...

Thanks for the info Ben. I never really knew about the whole flybar ratio thing. All I was told was a lower ratio was better for 3D.

I'm sure Kasama designed the head more for 3D. But I'm sure the head can be adjusted to be more stable in the wind for doing AP work or FAI style flying

Come on hhart. Lets see some vids already I seen the vid of the new head on the EVO 90 and it seems like a winner. The head looks to be pretty fast and stable at the same time. And the wind was blowing pretty hard too in the vid

Guys,

Test flight showed that the Kasama head handle freestyle flight pretty well. Pitch pumping, one spot tic-tocs, and chaos is a pleasure to performs. The way the head flies totally different than the oem evo90 head eg: tic-tocs uses less correction while parking on one spot.

One thing I noted is that the head is more suitable w/710mm blades. The reason being is that bolt-to-bolt spacing is ~2.5cm less than the oem evo90 head. But w/ 28 degree pitch window, there won't be any problem for the head to dissipate those extra horsepower.

I'll post some more pictures of the machine, head and setup tommorrow afternoon. Let me know if any questions arise...

The first shipment should be here in 2-3 weeks. We're considering some sort of a special deal for people who plan to share their setups, photos, flight videos here on Runryder. Please email us staff@grandrc.com if you're interested.

Thanks,

Guys,

Below is the pic for linkages setup (lengthwise):
I'm using 710mm radix, 95mm Vpaddle which yielded exceptional pitch pump and cyclic power. Make Sure that the collective & cyclic servos are up to the task.
