The instructions are very clear that you should not use foam tape for mounting a gyro. Instead you should use the thin double sticky tape that is included in the kit.

Why not use the same foam tape that I already know and trust?

Did anybody try it both ways and notice a difference?

Because the gyro mount is damped from vibration, you don't need to use extra thick foam pads

But why don't you use your usual method and try it

I was wondering if using the thin tape means that I can have higher gain without experiencing tail wag. ... or some other benefit that justifies the benfit of using the thin tape.

Very much depends on your gyro.

I'm using a CSM 720 with a very thin piece of double sided foam and a velcro strap for extra security. Gain setting is at 90%

Zero wag and very, very positive tail
