TZ90 Shark clutch issues.

I've been trying to get a Shark 90 flying but have had nothing but problems with it. I've also had to add 8oz up front and that's with a 3000mah lipo there.
My biggest problem is the clutch assembly. How are you guys making it work? When I tighten the fan/clutch onto the main shaft of the engine the bearings are so tight that the clutch grabs. If I leave it loose enough so the clutch turns then it unscrews when the engine starts. Yes, I've used loctite on it. They sent me some new clutch parts because the original didn't have enough clearance and the main gear flexed up and rubbed on the bottom of the clutch bell. It now has enough clearance but the new parts have the same problem with preloading of the bearings when I tighten it up. Anyone having a similar problem?

Hi Upside_Dan,
Probably of little use but here's my 2 cents worth. Just some thoughts for you.....

As a flyer of Aircraft as well (please don't hate me..) I am kind used to adding a bit of weight up the front or a big chunk 'o' lead down the back or whatever, so I cannot really comment. A bit of balancing is expected in my life

Also, when you received your upgraded clutch components was the Bell also changed? I have no idea if this will make a difference for you but maybe try new clutch/old bell then old clutch/new bell combinations??

How about the Spacers located between Clutch Bell on the engine side and above the Main gear Assy? Any difference moving these out maybe?

If you need to confirm components and corrct assembly, this link will take you to what I believe is the latest TZ90 Shark Manual.

Like I say, probably all stuff you've already checked but sometimes it's worth going over again.

I guess you sorted out the main gear,, good, with the clutch bearings here is what you might want to check out, pop the bearings out of the bell you will see a spacer in between the two bearing if it's too short the bearing will tighten up causing the clutch to grab, add a shim at one end of the spacer that way you can tighten the bell to the main shaft and that should solve your problem.

Thanks for the tips guys! I really appreciate the feedback. Yes, the main gear is no longer an issue, it's just fitting the clutch to the engine and having it turn freely. I can see how fitting a shim to the spacer would help to keep the inner bearing races lined up with the outer races if the sleeve were to crush at all, however there are a couple problems with trying to do that. The first is that there isn't anyway to safely remove the bearings from the clutch housing without pushing or pulling on the inner races which is pretty much going to ruin the bearings or at least cause them to fail quickly. The second thing is that my sleeve looks like it was cut with a tubing cutter so it doesn't have a nice flat square end on it to mate with the inner race of the bearing. When the inner race of the bearing tightens down on the sleeve it crushes a little and balloons out and rubs on the clutch bell housing wall. It's also made worse because there isn't anything to keep the sleeve centered at the top threaded part of the crankshaft. Am I the only one having this problem? It sound like this has't been an issue for any of you?

Oh yea... I've flown and still fly planks too. It's just that I hate to have to ADD weight to anything I'm flying!

It should come apat fearly easy the bearing are not that delicate that whole piece with the bearing is press fited, dont worry about the sleeve just add a shim here is a pic.
