| Did you get the glow or the gasoline version?
I used to work for/fly for the importer.
The gas one was pretty good (I never flew one, but I knew people that had them and enjoyed them).
I had the .50 sized glow version. The side frames and blade arms were just a little harder than warm butter...
When set up properly, they flew well. The people who were most successful with them, locked the blades from being able to swing (lead-lag) and balanced them on a "High Point" balancer. I resisted doing this but, in retrospect, should have tried it.
Ray Hotstetler was a real artist with setting these things up and getting them to fly properly.
In all honesty, I never cared much for the machine. It was very fragile and the engineering was quite unusual. On the upside, it was very easy to fly and somewhat aerobatic. I saw Bob Hamilton looping and rolling his on multiple occasions (Bob was an extremely good R/C Helicopter Pilot).
The best part of it, was the spectacularly good hardware (nuts and bolts). We used to replace some of the Schluter, Hirobo, and GMP hardware with the Kobe Kiko hardware).
If you have any questions, please ask (assuming I can remember the answers-these were imported around 1981, if memory serves). |
